📋 REQUISITOS

Federal Agency Sues Pharr Trucking Firm Over Hiring Age Cutoffs

The EEOC's San Antonio field office has sued Trancasa USA, a Pharr-headquartered trucking and logistics company with operations across south and west Texas, saying its hiring practices unlawfully screened out older driver applicants. The lawsuit alleges the company set an outright cutoff for applicants over 65 based on liability insurance limits, applied tougher driving-record standards to applicants 60 to 65, and required only those aged 63 to 65 to complete a long-form medical exam before being considered. EEOC Director Norma Guzman said, "Federal law prohibits employers from refusing to hire workers who are age 40 or older because of their ages." The suit points to a 64-year-old applicant with a spotless 20-year driving record who was rejected, and says the practices go back to at least June 2023; a hearing is scheduled for Dec. 8 in the Southern District of Texas. Trancasa says it was complying with its insurer's requirements and has yet to file a formal response.
