Most cross-border delays don’t happen at the border.
They happen before the truck even moves.
Here are 3 common reasons shipments from Mexico to the U.S. get delayed — and how to avoid them:
1. HTS Codes That Don’t Match the Invoice
Customs will flag mismatched classifications immediately.
Tip: Always validate with your customs broker before pickup.
2. Carrier isn’t bonded — but the move requires it
If your freight is in-bond (T&E/IT), only a bonded carrier can legally move it.
Tip: Ask for proof of bonded status before dispatch.
3. Missing or unclear commercial invoice
Value, Incoterms, country of origin — if one is missing, expect a border hold.
Tip: Don’t rely on templates. Review every shipment for accuracy.
