End of season🥲-

Our sailing ⛵️season has now come to a close! We managed to get the Alice Elizabeth Marie put away for hurricane season in record time- only 4 days after haulout! (Usually, it takes closer to 7 days of work!😓). We didn’t take any pictures 📸 of the process, as we have been busier than a mosquito🦟 at a nudist camp!😅 But, here are a few of the finished product- she’s all wrapped up for hurricane season.

We arrived back home 🏠 late last night, 4 months after leaving. We had a lot of fun in the Bahamas🇧🇸, and up and down the Florida coast! We enjoy (almost😬) all of it, but the people we see and meet are what really make the trip special and memorable! We reconnected with old friends, and made many new friends. The Bahamians are some of the friendliest people we’ve ever encountered! And, the sailors and cruisers we have become friends with are the best!

We sure enjoyed interacting with all of you, and sharing our journey on this page. We know we are fortunate to have these experiences, and blessed 🙏🏻to have so many folks interested in what we do! If you feel the least bit inspired by our adventures, please go out and check something off of YOUR bucket 🪣 list! We all have only a limited time on this earth 🌎, so make it count!

We sooooo appreciate all of your kind thoughts, and especially your prayers for our safety!🙏🏻 Lord willing, we hope to go out⛵️again next winter/spring. Meanwhile, we typically only post our sailing and boat-related activities on this page, so it will be quiet for awhile. Thanks for following us! We wish you all a great summer 🌞!!

Work/Play-

The last few days have been a stark contrast between working very hard on the AEM⛵️in 90 degree 🌞heat, and enjoying visiting with friends and family, as well as great meals😋! It makes the work so much easier, because we are having such a good time during the hours we aren’t working! Friends and family are the BEST!! We are planning to finish the work on the boat today, and start our long drive home 🏡

Haulout! ⛵️

Always stressful, but always interesting! 😬 The AEM was lifted out of the water, and moved to her spot on land for hurricane season! This video 🎥 is 4x normal speed…it took the crew close to 2hrs to do this! It’s all done very carefully and methodically. The bottom wasn’t too dirty, for 4 months in the water. Once she was securely in the cradle, she was moved into the yard, which required crossing a very narrow bridge across a creek (another stressful moment 🫣). All went well, and the next few days will be filled with cleaning and covering her, getting her ready for a long summer nap!😴 🛏️ But, we will also wedge in some more visiting with local friends and family!😁

Driving?🚙-

Wonder if we remember how to drive this thing???🤔. It’s been 4 months since we’ve driven a car!!🚙 And, the couple of times we’ve driven a golf cart or e-bike, it’s been on the left…the opposite side of the road from the US 🇺🇸

Well, after sitting for months, it needed a new battery 😐. But, so far, we are driving on the correct side of the street😁

Last leg ⛵️

Today we sailed 6hrs north to St Marys, Georgia. It’s a little bittersweet, as this was our last day underway on the water for this season 🥲 The last two days have been on waterways surrounded by marshland. Not very exciting, unless you’re a wading bird🦩, which we saw lots of!😁. We also saw a large number of dolphins 🐬 along the way, but all were camera 🎥 shy!🤷🏼‍♂️

We have been like a horse headed for the barn, the past several days. Our goal was to get back in time for a family wedding next week, so we have pushed a lot harder than usual up the Florida coast! Tonight, we are docked about 200 yards from the travel lift that will hoist the AEM ⛵️out of the water, currently scheduled for tomorrow afternoon late.

It was almost 4 months ago, when we left this very spot! It was very chilly 🥶 when we left. Now, of course, it’s quite warm. 🌞 Hurricane season officially started 2 weeks ago, and we are glad to have the AEM back in a safe place. But, man will we ever miss the Bahamas 🇧🇸!! The six weeks we spent there this year were so much fun! We’ll start planning next year’s voyage ⛵️in our heads🏝️, while we tackle the next 5 days of putting the Alice Elizabeth Marie to bed 🛏️ for the season! There’s lots of hard work 😓 to do here, but we also still have a few friends to visit nearby as well!😁. So, it’ll be work plus rewards!😉

Bridge Of Lions 🦁

Video of the AEM ⛵️crossing through the drawbridge at the Bridge Of Lions in St Augustine- in our opinion, the prettiest bridge we’ve encountered anywhere along the East coast! Opened for traffic in 1927, its Mediterranean design, complete with marble lion statues modeled after those in Florence, Italy, helped it earn a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It connects downtown St Augustine with Anastasia Island, across the Matanzas River.

Saint Augustine, Florida is the oldest city in the US, founded in 1565 by Spanish settlers!😲

Today we sailed into St. Augustine, and got to spend some quality time with cousins!🤗 We enjoyed a great meal at a Columbian restaurant, a nice walk around downtown, and visiting onboard the AEM! Breakfast-

Another GREAT stop at Nightswan Bed & Breakfast in New Smyrna! David and Natalie are such good hosts. We stay on our boat ⛵️ on their dock, and then walk up to the inn for breakfast!😋 This morning we had blueberry muffins and a delicious savory breakfast casserole!🤩. Tonight, we are in Palm Coast, Florida!

Canal Street😃-

Today, we sailed 4-1/2hrs north to New Smyrna Beach. What a pretty town!🤩 We took a walk through the Canal Street Historic District…Every street corner is beautifully landscaped with large potted plants and flowers! It’s very clean and pedestrian friendly! There are several small restaurants with sidewalk tables. After walking awhile, we decided we needed hydration, so we stopped at a chocolate shop and ordered Dark Chocolate Martinis 😁 Yum! And a charcuterie board! With the danger of dehydration under control, we made our way back to the AEM for dinner and then watched the Knicks 🏀 game!

Tomorrow, we head to Palm Coast, Florida!😊
