Remember the old Hanover Airport - when East Hanover kids could ride their bikes over and watch planes ‘touch n go’ — dreaming big without even realizing it.

David Schober grew up here, a proud Hanover Park High School graduate, Class of 1971. As a kid, he spent countless hours hanging around the airport (as well as his dad’s in Blairstown), soaking it all in. Turns out, those afternoons mattered.

On January 10, 2026, Dave was presented with two rare and prestigious FAA honors — the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award and the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. While some earn certification as both pilot and mechanic, it is extraordinary for one individual to receive both lifetime honors …

From the old Hanover Airport to the highest levels of aviation excellence — this is a story only East Hanover could tell.
