A new rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system was officially energized last week at Durango Airport. With a total capacity of 201 kW, the solar PV system installed by Shaw Solar is currently supporting 25-30% of the terminal facility’s daily electrical demand by taking advantage of the optimal sun exposure of angled southwest-facing rooflines. The solar PV system is one more important component of the larger terminal expansion project underway at DRO.

Construction of Phase 1B of the terminal expansion project at Durango Airport continues to progress. New pre-security restrooms are nearing completion, and are anticipated to open in June. Renovations will soon begin on two legacy airline boarding gates, and new food, beverage, and retail concession spaces will be opening one by one through the fall. Final project completion is anticipated by late fall 2026.

The new Transportation Security Administration - TSA screening checkpoint at Durango Airport is officially open! The next time you fly through DRO, you'll experience a completely new passenger flow. Construction on Phase 1B of the terminal expansion project at Durango Airport reached a key milestone today with a ribbon cutting for a new Transportation Security Administration - TSA screening checkpoint and new American Airlines boarding gate. These spaces will open to the traveling public next week. Additional terminal construction will continue through the end of 2026, including new food and retail concessions, landside restrooms, and renovated boarding gates.
