If you’re a locomotive maintenance tech, you know how important it is to have the right download cables to connect to onboard systems.

With so many components to test and troubleshoot, including train control, PTC, and air brakes, you need a variety of plugs and cable types to get the information to your laptop.

We put all the cables and adapters you need into one kit, so you’re always prepared.

*Individual cables are also available.

We are very grateful to Patriot Rail for not only hosting an exceptional LMOA Mechanical Committee Meeting last week, but also for arranging an excursion on the newly restored Gettysburg Railway!

The scenic ride was a highlight of the meeting and a great opportunity to see the results of the hard work, dedication, and collaboration that went into bringing this historic railroad back to life.

Thank you, Jason Burkholder and David Bevins, for your incredible hospitality, and congratulations on your outstanding work to preserve this important piece of American railroad history.

Last week, our Chief Solutions Officer, Dave Fox, joined Chad Gibson of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. to present an initial draft of a white paper on electric wiper systems at the LMOA Mechanical Committee meeting.

The finalized paper will be presented at Railroad Interchange 2027, where we’ll explore how the shift from pneumatic to electric wipers is an important step in the evolution of locomotive design.

Here’s a quick look at the benefits:

• Eliminate air leaks
• Increase locomotive availability
• Lower maintenance costs
• Improve fuel efficiency
• Enhance crew safety and satisfaction
• Strengthen AESS and battery performance

Also presenting were Jason Burkholder and David Bevins, who played instrumental roles in Patriot Rail’s restoration of the Gettysburg Railway.

It was a great meeting, capped off by a scenic train ride through one of our nation’s most iconic battlefields. Gettysburg remains both a somber reminder of the lives lost during the Civil War and a powerful symbol of national unity.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with industry colleagues, share ideas, and continue advancing the future of locomotive technology through the Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association.

Whether you're operating a Class I railroad or a shortline, multiple-unit (MU) testing is essential for safe operations, locomotive synchronization, and regulatory compliance.

The ACS Railroad Solutions MU Test Kit simplifies the process, reducing validation time from 90 minutes to 30, while cutting labor requirements by approximately 90%.

• Lightweight and easy to transport
• No separate power supply required
• Indicator lights match the receptacle configuration
• Only 1 electrician needed for validation

According to our Midwest distribution partner, JMA Railroad Supply Co., demand has been strong, with orders continuing to roll in.

Want to see how it can improve your MU testing process? Let's talk.

Pneumatic wiper systems are a common source of maintenance headaches. Air leaks, condensation, worn hoses, and valve failures can all lead to unnecessary downtime.

"This is one of the things that happens with pneumatics, and we see it a lot. The hoses get dry, brittle, and cracked, and then they leak." - Dave Fox

So, an increasing number of railroads are converting to electric wiper systems. By eliminating the air components, they can:

• reduce maintenance
• improve visibility & reliability
• help keep locomotives in service

Freight rail has been moving America for nearly 200 years. It's amazing to see how generations of innovation have transformed the industry.

Which advances have had the biggest impact? That's a tough call.

Communication
Flags → Telegraph → Two-Way Radio → Digital Networks

Power
Wood → Coal → Diesel → Electric → Battery → Hydrogen

Operations
Paper Records → Mainframe Computers → GPS → Sensors → Cameras → AI → PTC → Digital Twins → Real-Time Monitoring

Safety
Hand Brakes → Automatic Couplers → Automatic Air Brakes → Centralized Traffic Control → PTC → Smart Sensors

Each breakthrough has moved freight rail forward, improving safety, efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

And innovation isn't slowing down. The industry continues to invest in technologies that strengthen the freight network and keep goods moving across the country.

That's a wrap for the week designated by the Association of American Railroads as Rail Innovation Week, but just the beginning of what's ahead!

The Twin Pulse™ Locomotive Energy System was developed to support idle reduction + reliable engine cranking. It’s our flagship solution that hits all the marks when it comes to sustainability.

Retrofitting a locomotive with this system is an upgrade that typically pays for itself within three years, saving fuel, improving crew comfort, and protecting the environment along the way!

As we join the Association of American Railroads in celebrating Rail Innovation Week, we thought we’d throw these numbers out there to show you just how far we’ve come.

• 55 kWh of Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Power

• Up to $100K in Fuel Savings Per Locomotive, Per Year

• Up to 30 Tons of GHG Emissions Avoided Per Locomotive, Per Year

If you’d like to see a working unit in action, we’d be happy to arrange it!

This week, we're celebrating the innovations shaping the future of freight rail.

Next-generation locomotives are improving efficiency, performance, and sustainability.

But building new locomotives isn't the only way the industry is advancing. Existing units are being retrofitted with advanced battery technology, idle reduction systems, and real-time intelligence to monitor system health, reduce fuel consumption, and lower environmental impact.

The TwinPulse™ Locomotive Energy System is designed to bring these capabilities to existing locomotives.

It supports idle reduction and reliable engine cranking without the use of lead-acid batteries, resulting in significant fuel savings, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and improved crew comfort.

The in-cab monitoring system and remote dashboard allow users to:

• Validate idle reduction efficiency
• Track locomotive movements
• Analyze usage patterns and sensor data
• Compare performance across the fleet
• Identify additional fuel-saving opportunities
• And more

Check out the video walkthrough to see it in action!

And thank you to the Association of American Railroads for designating this week as Rail Innovation Week. We're excited to see the technological transformation taking place across the freight rail industry—and proud to be part of it.

The Association of American Railroads has designated this as Rail Innovation Week, so we’re shining a light on some of the innovations helping move rail safety forward.

When it comes to railroad safety, even the smallest components can have a major impact.

Something as simple as a malfunctioning hydraulic wiper can sideline a locomotive. Limited visibility and the risk of high-pressure fluid leaks mean it’s not safe to operate.

Or consider an overheating wheel bearing. If left undetected, it can lead to a dangerous derailment.

That’s why so much of the equipment we provide is designed to support safer, more reliable rail operations and positive train control.

-Electric Wiper Kits – Improve visibility and reliability

-Wheel Bearing Temperature Strips – Help detect overheating before it leads to wheel failure

Positive Train Control Connectivity Kit – Provides everything needed to keep PTC systems communicating

--TwinPulse™ Locomotive Energy System – Replaces lead-acid batteries, supports idle reduction, and delivers real-time system monitoring

We’re proud to play a role in making rail operations safer and more reliable, and we’re always looking for new technologies that can move the industry forward.

We want to take a moment to thank Corey Ruch of BNSF Railway for his contributions as the president of the LMOA. Corey guided us towards meaningful change in the railroad industry and has really kept the momentum going during his term.

And congratulations to Mark Duve of Higher Power Industries, who will be taking the helm as the new president. Mark is brilliant, and we can’t wait to see what his vast experience and knowledge bring to our efforts!

The LMOA is a fantastic group that works together to offer improvements and recommendations for a safer and more reliable rail operation. Our own Dave Fox serves on the Mechanical Committee.

We look forward to the insightful LMOA presentations at Railway Interchange each year.
