Pilot community warning about Fallon Pilot Shop in Melbourne, Florida.
A couple of years ago, right on Sun&Fun Expo, I found a very nice and lightweight aviation headset with excellent noise reduction — the Tely Ice from the Florida-based manufacturer Tely Technologies (Melbourne, FL).
Unfortunately, when I finally decided to buy it, I did not purchase directly from the manufacturer, but instead from an Amazon reseller, Fallon Pilot Shop, who offered a suspiciously low price — more than a hundred dollars lower. And now I know why!
My package arrived with the manufacturer’s box already unsealed. Inside were batteries, a small souvenir flashlight/headlight, and accessories. Missing: the actual headset.
The reseller shipped a several-thousand-dollar aviation headset without apparently checking whether the headset was physically inside the box or whether it had gone missing during packing and shipping on their end.
According to Fallon Pilot Shop, they “received the box from the manufacturer and did not open it.” Apparently, quality control in Melbourne, FL now means shipping unsealed boxes on faith and positive energy.
Fallon Pilot Shop later claimed they were “working with the manufacturer” to report the item stolen. I then contacted Tely Technologies directly — also located in Melbourne, FL — and was told Fallon Pilot Shop had never even contacted them.
For expensive professional pilot equipment, “we never checked what we shipped” is a pretty remarkable business model.
Just sharing my experience so other pilots can use caution when ordering high-value gear through this reseller.
