Priceline says Atlantis is almost sold out for spring break. "We only have a few rooms left at $1,234." Total for Mar 14 to 21, 2027: $11,607 with taxes and fees. Meanwhile one owner is renting a 2 bedroom villa at Harborside Resort at Atlantis, same resort, same seven nights, for $750 a night. $5,250 total. That is $6,357 under the number with the countdown on it.

How can a resort be almost sold out and still have a 2 bedroom for $750 a night? Because Priceline only counts the rooms the resort gave it. Harborside's villas belong to owners. An owner who is not using their week in March has a maintenance bill to cover and a week to fill, so it gets listed at a price that moves. Scarcity on one site, inventory on the other.

Park City for Easter week: $9,307 on Booking.com, $4,893 from the owner of the week. Same 2 bedroom at Marriott's MountainSide at Park City, same seven nights, Mar 28 to Apr 4, 2027.

Why two prices? The week is owned, not rented from the hotel. The owner pays a maintenance bill on it every year whether they ski or not, so a week they cannot use gets listed at a price that moves. Booking sites only ever show the hotel's inventory, so the number you see there is real, it is just not the only number.

Disney World, Halloween week. Expedia's cheapest room a mile from the gate: $799. Except there is a secret inventory. Way cheaper.

Hotel sites sell the big villas. The studios never make it on. I checked Westgate Vacation Villas for Oct 30 to Nov 6, 2026: seven doors for sale, zero studios.

Owners keep the studios. They paid for the week years ago, nobody reprices it for Halloween, and when they cannot go they price it to move. One is live right now: sleeps four, kitchenette, one mile from the Disney gate, $329 for the week. Expedia's one bedroom, $799. That is $470 in your pocket. Smaller door, yes. Resort fee at the desk either way.

Save this before the group chat books the $799 door. One owner's week, gone when it books. Cancellation is by request, read it twice.

Why? Because this is a timeshare rental. An owner listed their resort week at the member rate on a marketplace built for resort weeks, the third option most travelers never think to compare. The big sites do not show these weeks, so peak dates look sold out or overpriced when they are neither.

This week's five: St. John, Park City, Phoenix, Aruba, and Maui. One of them is a Thanksgiving week hiding in plain sight.

The ticket is not the expensive part of Coachella. The bed is.

I checked the JW Marriott in Palm Desert for festival week 2027. One room for four people, Apr 7 to 14: $10,518, and that is before the 14% tax. The week that actually lines up with the festival was not bookable at all.

One building over, on the same resort campus, a timeshare owner is renting their studio for Apr 9 to 16. Two beds, kitchenette, patio, sleeps four. $1,887 for the week, $2,097 with parking. Same palm trees, same golf course.

Here is the trick: hotels reprice festival week nightly. An owner pays the same fixed fee whether their week lands on Coachella or a quiet June Tuesday, so their price never surges. That gap is $8,421 for the group.
