Summer isn't over yet! With a stretch of extreme heat and humidity in the forecast this week, we're offering free bus rides to cooling centers in Polk County, Central Iowa Shelter Services (CISS) and Bethel Mission locations.

WHEN: August 31-September 5, 2026

You must be traveling to a cooling center in order to get a free bus ride. Please let the driver know that you're going to a cooling center when you board.

As we round out the week, we want to congratulate Marlon Paiz on reaching an incredible milestone – 25 years of service with DART!

Marlon began his career doing service and utility work in our Maintenance department. For the past decade, he has served as DART’s tire technician. He is a valuable, reliable and dedicated member of our team.

Outside of work, Marlon owns and operates an automotive detailing business and enjoys traveling with his family and friends.

Calling all fairgoers! Parking is filling up fast at our State Capitol Park & Ride, so we strongly encourage you to come see us at the Center Street parking garage in downtown Des Moines.

We have a lot of space available in the garage and plenty of friendly DART faces eager to help you get on the bus to the Iowa State Fair!

We’re one week into the Iowa State Fair and we want to give a huge shout out to our entire DART team. Getting tens of thousands of fairgoers to and from the fair wouldn’t be possible without the work of nearly every staff member in our organization.

Monday, August 17 is Veterans Appreciation Day at the Iowa State Fair.

To show our appreciation for your service, veterans can show a military ID at one of our Park & Ride ticket booths to get a free State Fair bus ticket (Monday only).

As a reminder, veterans can ride regular DART bus routes at no cost because of an Unlimited Access Partnership with Polk County Veterans Affairs. These partnerships do not cover fare for special services like DART State Fair Park & Rides.

With several Iowa State Fair parking lots closing early today, it’s a great time to ride DART to and from the fair.

We have plenty of space available at our 7th & Center Street Park & Ride in downtown Des Moines. It’s an easy and convenient option for a busy weekend at the fair!

We've battled a lot of rain over the last two days, but that hasn't stopped thousands of people from taking DART to get to the Iowa State Fair. Riding DART is the easiest way to get to the fair because you don't have to deal with traffic or walk a long way to the fairgrounds.

Remember: our team provides Park & Ride service from the Iowa State Capitol and Center Street Garage each day of the fair from 8am until midnight - rain or shine!

ROUTE 12 RIDERS: Some bus stops along E. University and E. 33rd near the Fairgrounds will be closed during the Iowa State Fair, to prevent buses from getting stuck in long lines of fair traffic.

Use the Trip Planner on our website or MyDART app to see which bus stops you can continue to use during this closure: www.ridedart.com/trip-planner.

Signs are also posted at all of the stops that will be closed.
