A family-owned dedicated logistics provider since 1932. Ruan was founded during a very challenging time. It was the Great Depression.

John Ruan’s father had passed away and someone needed to provide for the family. So, despite the risk, the 18-year-old sold his family’s car, bought a truck and began hauling gravel around Iowa. Ruan Transportation Management Systems was born. Today, since that first load of gravel was shoveled by hand, Ruan continues to research and develop innovations in technology, equipment and safety. Congratulations to Ruan drivers Vince H. and David H. for representing Ruan at this year’s Wisconsin Truck Driving Championships! David H. earned 1st place in the Flatbed division and will advance to the National Truck Driving Championships later this year. We’re incredibly proud of both drivers for their hard work, professionalism, and dedication to their driving career. Ruan driver, Terry O., along with apprentice driver Victoria R., proudly provided transportation on behalf of Ruan to help collect 30,000 books for children across Central Iowa through United Way of Central Iowa’s Stuff the Bus program. Stuff the Bus is an annual book drive that brings together community members, organizations, and corporate partners to donate new and gently used children’s books. These books support early literacy efforts by reaching childcare centers, classrooms, and child-serving programs across Dallas, Polk, and Warren counties of Iowa. We’re proud to support a program that helps inspire educational success for children throughout Central Iowa.

Members of our Des Moines Campus team recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a day of volunteer service supporting affordable housing initiatives in Waukee, Iowa. As part of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s Walnut Crossing Blitz Build, Ruan team members assisted with accelerated construction efforts for building townhomes in a new affordable housing development in Waukee. The volunteer opportunity brought together professionals, donors, and future homeowners from across the Des Moines metro to support the development of safe, affordable housing for local families.

U.S. Representative Zach Nunn has recently secured $2 million in funding to support the construction and development of the new Trades and Industry building on DMACC's Ankeny Campus. Ruan's continued partnership with DMACC in supporting high quality technician training for students in Iowa looks forward to this strengthened connection between education and workforce needs by giving students hands-on training and direct pathways into essential careers. The Ruan Muscatine team attended the Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa Inspire event on April 23, 2026. JA Inspire is a hands-on career exploration experience for more than 500 local eighth-grade students, designed to connect classroom learning with real-world career pathways. Ruan hosted an interactive booth where students explored career opportunities in transportation. Students were highly engaged and asked thoughtful questions of our team.
