New Terminal Tuesday: A little more room for our littlest travelers.

Traveling with little ones comes with a lot of extras and the new DSM is being designed with families in mind.

The new terminal will include three new parent's rooms, giving parents and caregivers a private, comfortable place to feed, change or simply take a break with their little traveler.

Each room will include:

A comfortable chair and footrest
Changing table
Sink
A private space with a door that closes

Before security, two parent rooms will be located near the elevators: one on the first floor near Baggage Claim and one upstairs.

After security, another parent room will be located near Gate 11, just before the connector to the Legacy Concourse.

And on the Legacy Concourse, we'll continue to offer our Mamava lactation pod, located across from Portermill. The Mamava was generously donated to DSM by our friends at .

One more way we're making the new DSM a little easier for every kind of traveler.

✈️ WHO HANDLES THAT?

Your plane has landed at DSM, but you're waiting for someone to guide it into the gate or connect the boarding bridge.

Who handles that?

👉 Your airline and its ground handling team.

Airlines either employ their own ground crews or contract with companies to handle arriving aircraft, including marshaling planes into gates and operating boarding bridges.

DSM provides the gates and infrastructure, but the people servicing your flight are typically working for your airline or its contractor.

Different uniforms. Different employers. One airport. Now you know!

✈️ Introducing: New Terminal Tuesdays!

We’re getting closer, DSM.

From now through the opening of our new terminal, Tuesdays are for taking a closer look at what’s coming ... from the big, easy-to-see changes to some of the details you might not notice until you travel through it yourself.

And we’re kicking things off with something pretty hard to miss. 👀

The new passenger boarding bridges are arriving at DSM!

These new jet bridges will connect passengers to the six new gates in the new terminal, and yes, they made quite the entrance. They arrived on semis and made their way across the airfield to their new home.

Over the coming months, New Terminal Tuesdays will give you a closer look at the spaces, features and improvements taking shape as we get ready to welcome passengers into the new terminal.

There’s a lot to show you. See you next Tuesday. ✈️

A little piece of the new terminal experience has arrived early at DSM. 👀✈️

Our new flight information displays are now live at our current gates, and they come with some pretty great upgrades.

The new display makes it easier to see when boarding begins, how many minutes until your flight boards, what flight is coming up next, destination weather, and more.

This will be the look of our new terminal when it opens in January, but we couldn't wait to bring this upgrade to our passengers, so we did it now.

Just one of many new features coming to the DSM travel experience!

08/21/2026

From January 2025 to today, watch the new DSM terminal take shape in just 60 seconds.

What started as a construction site is looking more and more like the terminal that will soon welcome millions of travelers through its doors. We watch it happen every day, and somehow seeing it all come together in one minute is still pretty incredible.

The countdown is on. ✈️

08/18/2026

You’re looking at one of the hardest-working parts of our new terminal, and it isn’t even inside the building. ✈️

Meet the apron.

The apron is the massive paved area where aircraft park at the gates, passengers board, bags are loaded, planes are fueled and all that behind-the-scenes airport activity happens.

And building one? It takes A LOT more than pouring some concrete.

🚛 About 180,000 cubic yards of dirt were used for fill and surcharge ... that’s roughly 8,600 side-dump truckloads.

🏗️ We even built a concrete plant right here on the airport to support construction.

💪 And the concrete aircraft will eventually sit on? It’s nearly 17 inches thick.

Underneath that is layer after layer of specially engineered base material designed to support aircraft and stand up to years of Iowa weather. It may look like a really big concrete parking lot right now, but soon this will be where aircraft pull up to the gates of DSM’s new terminal.

Pretty cool view of what’s happening behind the building! ✈️
