Everybody loves the travel photos.

The beach photos. The ship photos. The "wish you were here" photos.

What they don't see is this.

A late night in the office.
A Celsius.
Pajamas.
A monitor full of client files.
And enough open tabs to make any IT person nervous.

Tonight is all about getting travel packets out, finishing quotes, confirming details, answering questions, and making sure every trip is exactly where it needs to be.

This is the not-so-glamorous side of being a travel advisor.

The part where nobody is taking photos.

Well... except me. Because if I'm still working at this hour, somebody ought to know about it. 😆

The part where vacations are built one itinerary, one reservation, and one checklist at a time.

The goal is simple: by the time my clients leave, everything feels effortless.

Even if there was a little caffeine and a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved getting it there.

Now if you'll excuse me, these travel packets aren't going to finish themselves. 😎

Airport observation this past weekend………

Everyone is headed somewhere different.

A business trip. A family vacation. A visit home. A new adventure.

It reminded me that we don’t usually remember years by the calendar.

We remember them by the trips.

The family vacation. The anniversary getaway. The girls’ trip. The visit you almost didn’t take.

Years from now, most of us won’t remember the gate number.

We’ll remember who was waiting on the other side.

I never expected a blanket to teach me one of the most important lessons about travel.

Most people looking at this picture just see me under a blanket.

But this blanket has a story.

Back in 2010, Kelly and I took our first family vacation where we weren’t counting every dollar and figuring out how to make a trip work by staying with relatives. On the way home, I found a beautiful leather blanket at Buc-ee’s.

Then I saw the price tag.

Back on the shelf it went.

Later that night, Kelly handed me a package and said, “I think you forgot something.”

Inside was the blanket.

From that day forward, it became my blanket. It lived at the foot of my bed, traveled with us, and became part of countless movie nights with the kids.

Then Hurricane Laura happened.

In the rush to evacuate, I left the blanket behind.

When we returned home, the ceilings had collapsed and much of what we owned was ruined.

Including the blanket.

For six years, every time I walked into a Buc-ee’s, I’d look for another one.

A few weeks ago, during a late-night Buc-ee’s stop (because let’s be honest, that’s why most of us stop there), I wandered into the home section.

And there it was.

The exact blanket.

Of course I bought it.

But the truth is, it was never really about the blanket.

It was about a husband who noticed the little things.

Movie nights with kids who are now grown.

The feeling of home when I unfolded it in a hotel room.

The memories wrapped up inside it.

And that’s what travel is really about.

Years later, we don’t always remember the itinerary. We remember how a place made us feel. The people we shared it with. The version of ourselves we became while we were there.

The places matter.

But the memories are what stay with us.

Somewhere over Texas on the flight home from San Diego, it hit me.
I just spent a week with hundreds of other travel advisors.

Workshops before breakfast, which, if you know me, is its own kind of miracle. Sessions that ran long because nobody wanted to leave. A conference badge that didn't come off until I walked back into my hotel room each night.

And I came home with three new letters. VTA. Verified Travel Advisor.

Here's what nobody tells you about those letters. I didn't need them to book a cruise. I could have stayed home that week and kept doing exactly what I was already doing.

But that's not the job.

When you hand me your anniversary trip, or the first real getaway you've taken since the kids moved out, you're not handing me a booking. You're handing me something that matters to you. The least I can do is keep getting better at protecting it.

So I flew across the country, sat in the front row, and earned a credential that says I take this as seriously as you do.
That's why I went. And that's why I'll go again.

The deal sites will always be cheaper. They will never sit in a 7am workshop learning how to do this better for you.
