Happy National Dessert Day. 🍫

We have a rule when we travel. If someone who actually lives there tells us to try something — we try it.
Even if it is not something we would normally order.
Even if it sounds like something we have had before and were not impressed by.
Because it is almost never the same thing.

Our guide in Lisbon told us we had to try the best chocolate cake in the world. I do not really eat cake. I am not a big fan of chocolate. I went along mostly to be polite. 😄

What I was not expecting was whatever that was. Dense. Rich. Nothing like what I call chocolate cake at home. I could have eaten the whole thing. ✨

That little detour was not on any itinerary. It was just someone who knew the city telling us where to go. That is what we try to build into every trip we plan. 🌍

Three things I genuinely do not care about as a travel advisor. 🤔

1️⃣ Star ratings. ⭐ A five-star rating on a booking site means almost nothing to me. I care about the property's soul — the service culture, the location, whether it is actually the right fit for you.

2️⃣ Popularity. 📸 The most photographed spots are often the most disappointing in person. I plan for experience, not aesthetics.

3️⃣ Lowest price. 💰 I care deeply about value. But value and cheap are not the same thing. I would rather help you spend your money well than spend less and come home wishing you had done it differently.

If you are looking for someone to find you the best deal, I am probably not your person. ✨

We watched the sun set from the top of Mauna Kea, with the clouds spread out below us. 🌅

The Big Island holds a lot in one place: volcanic summits, the olive-green sand of Papakōlea, and golden hour along the Kona coast. 🌋🌊

A place like this is best when the days are paced around it. That is the part we love planning. 🤍

Telling your advisor — or yourself — what you think you are supposed to want instead of what you actually want.

People say 'we want to see as much as possible' when what they really mean is 'we want to feel like we actually lived it.' ✨

Those are two completely different trips.
One is a checklist. The other is an experience. 🌍

One comes home with a full camera roll and a vague sense that it went too fast. The other comes home with stories that last for years.

Do you know what airline stopovers are and how they work? ✈️

Most people treat a connection as something to survive.
Get through the airport ➡️ Board the next flight ➡️ Arrive exhausted 🥱

But a strategically planned stopover turns that layover city into a second destination. 🌍

London on the way to Rome.
Reykjavik on the way to Edinburgh.
Amsterdam on the way to anywhere in Central Europe —
which is exactly how we found ourselves in Portugal before sailing through the Netherlands. ⛵

The flight cost is often the same or close to it. 💰

Why I always pack a journal on every trip — and why you should too. ✍️

I started bringing one because I kept coming home unable to remember the name of that little restaurant or what the guide said at that overlook that made me catch my breath.

Now it is non-negotiable. 📖
Not for long entries.
Just a few lines a day.📝
The name of the w**e.
The view from the window. 🪟
Something someone said - that stuck.

Three years later, when you open that journal, the whole trip comes back.
The sights. The sounds. The feeling of being exactly where you were supposed to be.

That is memory-rich travel in the most literal sense. The camera roll captures the place. The journal captures what it felt like to be there. 🌍

1. Absolutely nothing.
2. It was a terrible idea.
3. I have no idea how people do not travel.

Not dramatic..Honest. ✨

Travel is not a reward for when everything else is in order. It is part of how I stay present, curious, and grounded in the work I do. The trips I have taken are not separate from my life. They are woven into everything I know about how to help
someone plan theirs. 🌍

If you have been waiting for things to slow down before you go somewhere worth going — this is your sign. They are not going to slow down. 🤍

Three questions I get asked as a travel advisor ✈️🌍 — and the honest answers.

Do you charge fees? Yes, for custom itinerary planning. 💰 And it is worth every dollar because of what you get on the other side of it— a trip designed around your real life, not a template.

🗺️ Can't I just book it myself? You can. But you will not have someone in your corner when things go sideways. 🚧 And you will not have access to the perks, upgrades, and amenities that our supplier partnerships make possible through our affiliation with Gifted Travel Network, a Virtuoso Member.

🌟 How far in advance should I start planning? For a meaningful trip — especially a river cruise or multi-country itinerary — nine to twelve months out is ideal. ⏳ For expedition travel like Antarctica, earlier is always better.
