We wanted to give a shoutout to our muralist, Lauren Fails! She is the talent behind both new murals in town. Without her, the Penatuhkah Mural and Blessing would not have been possible. She brought an idea to life for the entire town to enjoy! This project hit home with her work in college and her work with the tribal groups in Oklahoma!

Her murals can be found all over! Find her work at https://www.elleayco.com/ and bring her to your town!

For those of you who could not attend the "Mural Blessing," we are sharing the opening remarks and the mayor's speech.

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the first annual Penatuhkah Comanche Day Celebration in De Leon.
I would like to recognize a few folks who made this day possible. Developing De Leon President Feltz Terrill, Board member and Treasurer Gil Gilbert, our hard-working secretary/ social media expert Vannesa Assmann, and board member Mark Beaty.
This event is co-hosted by the De Leon Historical Society. Bringing it all together is Linda Frank and her team; we could not have done it without them.
I would also like to thank the Penatuhkah Comanche Trail Partnership and its Executive Director, Montie Guthrie, for their support.
Most of all, thanks to the Penatuhkah Comanche tribal members who honor us with their presence here today and the blessing of this mural.
I would now like you to welcome De Leon Mayor Jan Grisham.

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to De Leon.
On behalf of the City of De Leon, it is my honor to welcome you to our first Penatuhkah Comanche Celebration and the blessing of our new 100-foot mural honoring the newly opened Penatuhkah Comanche Trail.
Today is a special day for our community as we recognize the rich history, culture, and heritage of the Penatuhkah Comanche people and their lasting connection to this area. This mural stands as a symbol of respect, remembrance, and pride for all who visit our town.
We are especially honored to welcome members of the Penatuhkah Comanche Tribe from Oklahoma, whose presence makes this day even more meaningful.
We are also proud to welcome Texas 25th District Congressman Roger Williams, whose support and recognition of rural Texas communities and local heritage projects are greatly appreciated.
Thank you to Developing De Leon Today Corporation, the De Leon Historical Society, our local volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and everyone who helped make this celebration possible.
We are proud to share De Leon’s story and our commitment to preserving history while building for the future.
Thank you all for being here, and welcome to De Leon.
