One of the most common questions we get at the yard is, "How much gravel do I actually need?"

The answer depends on three things:
📏 Length and width of the area
📐 Depth (we usually recommend 2 to 3 inches for driveways and landscaping)
🪨 The type of material

A good rule of thumb: 1 ton of gravel covers about 80 to 100 square feet at 2 inches deep.

Here are a few you might not know about:
🪨Pea Gravel: Smaller rock consisting of 1/4 to 3/8 inch in size. Works well for landscaping, walkways, and decorative use.

🪨Mason Sand: Used for brick laying with a yellowish white tint. A go-to for masonry contractors.

🪨Rip Rap: Available in sizes ranging from 4 inch to 12 inch rock. Used for erosion control and managing wash outs.

Ever wonder what goes into building a road you drive on every day? 🚧

It starts from the ground up. The existing ground is graded and compacted. Then layers of aggregate and base material like 610 Limestone Base are placed to provide stability and drainage. In areas with wet spots or heavy traffic, Oversize Rock (1 to 3 inch, 85% rock and 15% clay) helps reinforce the foundation. From there, asphalt or concrete is laid on top.

Every layer matters. Skipping a step or using the wrong materials can shorten the life of the road significantly. ❗

❌ Not all construction materials serve the same purpose. Here's a quick look at three of our products and how they're commonly used:

🪨 Clay Gravel: Used as a foundation layer when building a new road or driveway. It's also helpful for building up existing driveways to form a crown so water sheds properly. This product contains 30% rock, 70% sand and clay.

🪨 57 River Rock: A clean product with many different uses, from driveways to drainage. It consists of a combination of 3/8 to 1 1/2 inch rock.

🪨 610 Limestone Base: A crushed limestone combination of fine particles to 1 1/2 inch rock. Great for road base and general construction projects.
