Our Story

I decided to open A Day Away! when I could not find a wheelchair van rental option in Northwest Indiana. It meant the world to be able to provide a convenient method of transportation for my Aunt Mary. And, for her, to travel in her chair without the strain of transfer to a passenger vehicle meant enjoying an outing again.

I’ve purchased 3 new 2019 Wheelchair Accessible, Rear Entry Dodge Caravans. They are easy to use when securing the wheelchair passenger and comfortable to drive. Each van can accommodate 2 wheelchair passengers. My goal is to increase the fleet as the need demands.

The stories I hear when vans return are often heart warming. Someone who enjoyed going out to lunch with grandchildren on a Sunday afternoon or to a family gathering who had not been able to leave the senior living facility in years, reinforces the need and goal of starting this business. Things we take for granted are still important to others who’s declining mobility may be limiting their life experiences.

My only regret is not opening the business sooner. My Aunt passed away in December and her declining condition prevented us from doing things we could have done the year prior.
