A quick update for our community: From July 21 to July 29, the runway at Cortez Municipal Airport will be closed overnight from 2200 MDT until 0630 MDT while crews install our new runway lighting system.

These upgrades are part of ongoing improvements to support safer and more reliable air service for everyone who flies in and out of Cortez. During daytime work, runway edge lights will be off, although VASI and PAPI guidance lights should remain on.

Many pilots have already been informed through airside groups, but we want our local travelers and neighbors to know what’s happening as well.

Thank you for your patience as we invest in important infrastructure improvements. If you have any questions, we’re here to help.

The runway at Cortez Municipal Airport (CEZ) will be closed at night from July 21 to July 29 for our runway lighting upgrade project. Nightly closures run from 2200 MDT to 0630 MDT.
During the day, runway edge lights will be turned off while work is underway. VASI and PAPI lights are expected to remain operational. If anything changes, we will share an update.
VASI and PAPI help pilots stay on the correct glide path by showing red and white light combinations that indicate whether an aircraft is too high, too low, or right on target.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us.
