After nearly 36 summers working for Isle Royale National Park. I’d begun to think the “Wolves of Isle Royale” were more myth than mystic. I’ve scanned the forest and shoreline for more miles than I can count, never a glimpse. Ive heard countless stories of visitors’ encounters with them. A flash, or a short glimpse. I’ve heard them on a few occasions myself. Those moments and stories give you a feeling they’re out there, somewhere? So a week ago, during a whirlwind 23 hour escape from sailing and children and pets, my wife Karma and I found our first wolf. It was worth the wait!
