Military Aircraft Scheduled to Visit Buchanan Field Airport

September 27, 2024, Concord, CA- The Contra Costa County Public Works Department would like to notify the public that an Air Force C-130J from the 314th Airlift Wing in Little Rock Air Force Base will be passing through Buchanan Field for an off-station training mission. They will be here to support Girls in Aviation Day.

While the C-130 is quieter than many aircraft that utilize Buchanan Field on a daily basis, it will look different (see image below) than what you’re used to seeing. On arrival, as part of the crew’s training mission, they will be flying the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) published instrument approach to the airport and will use standard FAA departure procedures when leaving. We understand that a different look and sound of military aircraft can be unexpected, but we would like to assure the community that this is a planned training mission for the 314th Airlift Wing.

Buchanan Field, in cooperation with local authorities and the military, will take all necessary precautions to minimize disruption and ensure that the visit runs smoothly and safely.

A Message from Your Director of Airports Re: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Notice

Hello Contra Costa County Frequent Flyers,

Please see the attached letter from the FAA advising of the proposed decommissioning of the Concord very high frequency omnidirectional range (VOR)/distance measuring equipment (DME). The letter describes the FAA’s need/desire for the decommissioning, as well as the expected impacts. Lastly, it provides for an opportunity for public comment, with the comment period ending on July 1, 2024.

SANTA IS ARRIVING AT 10:30AM.

1. Please arrive about 15 minutes before 10:30AM to be on the Airfield for Santa's Meet and Greet before Photos.

2. Parking is Free at the Concord Plaza Hotel. Follow the signs when you arrive at 45 John Glenn Dr.

3. We are collecting monetary donations ONLY for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. Please arrive with exact change if you wish to donate cash. Electronic Payment is accepted.

4. You must make a minimum $5 donation to the food bank to be entered into the raffle.
