Air Force Thunderbirds representatives will visit on Friday, June 19 at 8:30 a.m. to deliver a youth-focused presentation in collaboration with The Ohio State University Center for Aviation Studies. Topics include leadership, professionalism and goal achievement. There will be an opportunity for a meet and greet with members of the Thunderbirds team following the presentation.

Congratulations to Justin Porter, ’s new director of airport operations and maintenance! In this role Porter will lead and manage the Airfield Maintenance team and ensure the airport’s compliance with Federal Aviation Administration Part 139 regulations. He will also perform other mission-critical functions, including leading airport capital improvement projects, maintaining and enhancing airport security infrastructure and managing airport firefighting operations.

Congratulations to the aviation program, recognized as the nation's top collegiate aviation program by Alpha Eta Rho - AHP! The award was bestowed during AHP’s 2026 Annual Collegiate Aviation Symposium held February 23 at the Ohio Union. Ohio State’s program is the only one still in operation since the award’s 1929 beginnings🏆

After 37 years of working at The Ohio State University Airport, Assistant Airport Director and Director of Airfield Maintenance Dale Gelter officially retired January 31. Gelter started as a student assistant in the 1980s, then moved into a full-time role after graduation. He worked in aircraft maintenance before transitioning to the airfield maintenance team in 1995. There, he advanced over the years, becoming team lead in 2011. Gelter also served as interim airport director in 2023.

As part of Gelter’s management of airfield operations activities, he produced the popular Buckeye Honey harvested from the airfield and sold in the Pilot Shop.

Dale, thank you for your dedication to Don Scott Field and commitment to safety. Farewell! May you enjoy retirement!
