We are saddened to learn of the passing of one of our outstanding former board members, Bobby Harper. For 39 years, Mr. Harper helped lead the airport through unprecedented growth, contributing to a thriving economic development era. During his tenure, Airbus Helicopters Inc., Aurora Flight Sciences and Stark Aerospace established production facilities on airport property. In addition, Mr. Harper aided the Golden Triangle Development LINK in bringing over $7 billion in new industry and more than 65,000 new jobs to the Golden Triangle. Our airport staff, however, will most remember him for his kind demeanor, his integrity and the genuine friendship he extended to us all. Our love and prayers are with his family.

The Golden Triangle Regional Airport Authority extends its deepest condolences to the family of Stuart Preston Vance.

Beginning in the mid-1960s, Mr. Vance served on the airport planning commission and was instrumental in establishing and advancing the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. He helped secure community support to create a regional airport that would serve Columbus, Starkville, and West Point. As an original board member in 1970, he helped name the airport and establish its logo.

He continued to serve on the airport board until 2013, helping manage its growth through jet service, terminal expansions, and the tenures of several successful airport executive directors.

The 2022 terminal expansion was dedicated in his honor and named the Stuart P. Vance Wing.

We are grateful for his service and appreciate his long-range vision, which has enabled the successful growth of the Golden Triangle over the past 20 years.
