The Posh Adventurers are back in London getting ready for the on Sunday. We’ve checked in to very posh surroundings at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. We have an incredible view of a wall and some windows. Perhaps I should have sprung for a room with a view. Things picked up at breakfast where we had a lovely view of the park including the King’s Household Cavalry out for morning exercise. And the extremely kind staff brought us extra bottles of water. Because we’re spoiled.

The Posh Adventurers took a side trip to Sussex for Stephen to get some driving practice on the 1903 Stevens Duryea. We stayed at the Rose and Crown in Burwash. Built of reclaimed ship timbers, it dates back to the 15th century. Ceiling a bit low for tall people-just right for us. I had a terrific venison pie and a couple of pints of bitter. Super friendly staff and customers.

The Posh Adventurers have been kinda slack in our posting even though we have tons to report. So let’s start the day with a brunch recommendation. Shout out to Small Sugar in our hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. It’s an independently owned little spot with outdoor dining.

Food is simply amazing. Very fresh, innovative and organic. Tartines, creative pastries, salads and sandwiches. The zataraan carrots are to die for - trust me on this.

And for extra fun, we drove Joan - our 1935 Alvis Speed 20!

The Posh Adventurers are in the Maldives.

We took Delta from Columbia, South Carolina, connecting in Atlanta to JFK on Delta. After a short stay in the TWA Hotel, we flew Etihad 14 hours to Abu Dhabi and then on to Male, the capitol of the Maldives. Then on to the Conrad Rangali Island via seaplane. In total, we travelled for 38 hours door to door.

We stayed at the Conrad for three nights and then on to The Nautilus Maldives for six more nights.

Less than 10% of the visitors to the Maldives are American. Not surprising considering the travel time and cost.

The Maldives are a uniquely special place. It is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean southwest of India. There are hundreds of coral atolls-many of which are large enough for a small island. The resorts are built on these small islands usually with overwater bungalows. The temperature is a uniform 84 degrees every single day.

The water is absolutely crystal clear and deliciously warm. You can scuba, snorkel and fish. Or simply relax and soak up the sun.

Food is expensive. Whilst there is an abundance of local fish, almost all other food is brought in from Dubai. Meat is from Australia.

The Maldivians are wonderfully kind people fulfilling the Muslim tradition of hospitality. Besides Maldivians, there are service workers from all over the world. We’ve already met a chef from Antigua, a butler from Kazakhstan, a masseuse from Bhutan, a jeweler from Sri Lanka and a dive instructor from Spain.

More adventures and photos on the way, plus hotel and airline reviews.
