The Scappoose Airport may have officially closed yesterday for the Runway Rehabilitation Project, but there was still plenty of activity on the airfield today!

The U.S. Air Force 304th Rescue Squadron was on site conducting rope rescue training exercises - a pre-arranged allowance despite the closure. We were honored to host these highly trained Airmen as they sharpened critical skills used in real-world rescue missions.

Best of luck to the 304th, and thank you for your service!

The Port of Columbia County recently had the opportunity to tour the Port of Kalama and the Port of Woodland to learn more about how our neighboring ports are strategically planning for growth, investing in infrastructure, and creating opportunities for economic development in their communities.

Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are essential to building strong port districts, and we are grateful for the warm welcome and valuable insights shared by both teams. Seeing firsthand how other ports are approaching industrial development, waterfront planning, transportation infrastructure, and community partnerships helps us bring new ideas back to Columbia County.

A big thank you to the Port of Kalama and the Port of Woodland for taking the time to host us and showcase the exciting work happening in your districts. We look forward to continuing to learn from one another as we work to support jobs, economic vitality, and long-term prosperity throughout the region.

As we prepare for the Scappoose Airport Runway Rehabilitation Project beginning June 8, the Port hosted an airport safety training today for construction teams involved in the project.

We know the upcoming 90-day closure is challenging for pilots and airport users, but this project is a critical investment in the next 20 years of the Scappoose Airport โ€” including a fully rehabilitated runway, upgraded lighting systems, and improved infrastructure designed to serve our community and region for decades to come.

Huge thanks to PCC OMIC Training Center for the classroom space and to Pretty Nice Deli in St. Helens for providing lunch for the team โ€” the food was a huge hit!

Earlier this month, the Port had the opportunity to attend the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, D.C. alongside Business Oregon, Greater Portland Inc, Port of Portland, and Prosper Portland.

Weโ€™re sharing a few photos from the Austrian/Oregon luncheon, where we connected with partners and discussed opportunities in Columbia County, the Greater Portland Area and across Oregon.

SelectUSA brings together industry leaders, manufacturers, infrastructure operators, investors, and site selectors from around the world. The conference provided an opportunity to promote Columbia County as a strategic location for industrial investment and trade, strengthen relationships with economic development partners, and showcase the assets that support long-term business growth and job creation in our region.
