With wildfires spreading across Texas, drought conditions increasing and little chance of rain on the horizon, we wanted to share with you safety tips about driving near wildfires or smoke.

Your three main goals are: Maximize visibility, Prevent hazardous air from entering your cabin, and avoid collisions. Dense smoke can reduce sight distance to zero with almost no warning.

1. Adjust your vehicle controls: Turn on your air recirculation mode, roll up all windows, use low-beam headlights (never use high beams) and turn on your wipers and defrosters.

2. Adapt your driving behavior: Slow down immediately, increase your following distance, follow road markings and minimize distractions. Avoid parking on dry vegetation so you do not ignite a fire from the hot undercarriage of your vehicle.

3. In Zero Visibility: Get off the road safely. Turn off your driving lights when parked and activate your hazard lights, setting your emergency brake if needed. Stay in your vehicle if trapped by fire as the steel body provides protection from heat and embers. Get down on the floor board and cover yourself with a blanket until the main fire front passes.

It’s Bingo Time! 🎉

On Wednesday, August 26, Jimena visited the Fabens Community Center to host one of our community-based activities: Traffic Safety Bingo! Participants enjoyed playing bingo while learning important traffic safety facts throughout the game. It was a fun and interactive way to stay engaged while learning how to stay safe on the road!
A big thank you to El Paso County Community Services for hosting us! We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community and promote safer driving.

El miércoles 26 de agosto, Jimena visitó el Centro Comunitario de Fabens para llevar a cabo una de nuestras actividades comunitarias: ¡Bingo!
