Port Canaveral recently hosted the annual severe weather season meeting that provided attendees with an understanding of the guidance and plans in coordination of the US National Weather Service Melbourne Florida, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Florida (Official), NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center and Canaveral Fire Rescue City/Port for severe weather events. The meeting reinforced the need for Port Canaveral stakeholders to be prepared and know what to do in the event of a severe weather occurrence.

CONNECTING WITH OUR COMMUNITY: Canaveral Port Authority Commissioner Carol Craig was the guest speaker at today’s meeting of the Cocoa Rotary held at Oyster Shooter’s Raw Bar & Grill in Cocoa Village. Commissioner Craig’s presentation offered a comprehensive overview of the Port, including its rich history, diverse operations that include cruise, cargo, recreation and aerospace, as well as its role in the community and a look toward the future followed by a question and answer session. Thank you, Commissioner Craig for telling Port Canaveral’s story to our community!

ANNUAL SEVERE WEATHER SEASON MEETING – MONDAY, JUNE 1: Coinciding with the start of hurricane season, the annual severe weather season meeting, aimed at Port tenants and vendors, will be held on Monday, June 1 at 9:30 a.m. at the Canaveral Port Authority Maritime Center.

This meeting will offer an overview of the guidance, plans, and coordination of the National Weather Service, U.S. Coast Guard, Canaveral Port Authority, Brevard County Sheriff's Office and Canaveral Fire Rescue for severe weather events and provide attendees with helpful information to stay safe and be better prepared in the event of a severe weather occurrence.

CAPT. JOHN W. MURRAY INDUCTED INTO INTERNATIONAL MARITIME HALL OF FAME: In recognition of a distinguished maritime career spanning five decades, Captain John W. Murray, CEO of the Canaveral Port Authority, was inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Capt. Murray and his fellow inductees were recognized for their leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication to advancing the maritime industry throughout their careers.

“I’m deeply honored to be inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame alongside so many respected leaders in our industry,” said Capt. Murray. “The maritime industry has provided me with extraordinary opportunities over the past five decades and I’m grateful to the many colleagues, mentors and co-workers who have helped shape my journey along the way.”
