Another incredible project completed at Southern Boatworks LLC. We recently installed a full Seakeeper Ride 750 Quad system on this beautiful Mystic Powerboats M4200 and the results have been nothing short of impressive.

The Seakeeper Ride system has completely transformed the vessel’s handling, ride quality, and overall usability on the water. From improved attitude control to a smoother, more comfortable ride at speed, this setup truly changed the way this boat performs.

This particular M4200 has now headed back home to Lake of the Ozarks with her new owner, and to our knowledge, this is currently the only Mystic M4200 on the water equipped with a Seakeeper Ride 750 Quad system.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a unique build and continue pushing the limits of what modern stabilization technology can do in the high-performance boating world.

For Seakeeper Ride sales, service, and installation, give Southern Boatworks a call.

We’re excited to announce another major addition to our growing shipyard capabilities — a Laguna Swift 5’ x 10’ Vacuum CNC Machine. This new equipment allows us to expand our in-house manufacturing and custom fabrication services for both recreational and commercial marine projects.

With this new CNC system, we are now able to machine and fabricate custom parts from:

Fiberglass
Aluminum
Plastics and composite materials

This greatly expands the custom solutions we can offer our customers, including:

Custom dash panels
Electronics and switch panels
Engraving services
Interior and exterior fabricated components
Custom mounting systems
Restoration and obsolete replacement parts
One-off prototype and custom fabrication projects.

Keeping this work in-house allows us to improve turnaround times, maintain strict quality control, and continue delivering the level of craftsmanship our customers expect from a true full-service shipyard.

Working with Laguna Tools throughout this process has been incredible. They have helped get us set up not only with this machine, but also positioned us for additional equipment and future machines as we continue expanding our in-house manufacturing capabilities.

Our goal is simple — continue bringing more production and fabrication under one roof so outsourcing is no longer necessary, allowing us to maintain tighter quality control and stick to the restricted timeframes our customers depend on.

We should have the machine set up and fully operational within the next few weeks, and we’re excited to begin offering these new capabilities to our customers.

As Southern Boatworks continues to grow and invest in advanced equipment and technology, we remain committed to providing high-quality custom marine solutions built right here in-house.

Give us a call to discuss your next custom project. 281-334-7245

We had the pleasure of hauling out this beautiful 50’ East Bay for one of our customers while she was in the yard for spray rail repairs and rudder shaft packing adjustments. Always great seeing a cold molded sport fish like this come through the yard.

Real Results. Real Stability. Real Game-Changer.

It’s been a busy few months here in Southeast Texas—and for good reason. We’ve been transforming boats with Seakeeper gyro stabilizers and Seakeeper Ride systems, delivering next-level comfort, control, and performance on the water.

Recent Highlights:
• Blackjack Boats 256 Coastal – Tight install? No problem. We fit a Seakeeper 1 inside the console and paired it with a Seakeeper Ride 450 system. The result? A ride so smooth it feels unreal. This could be one of the only boats of its kind with this setup.

• Pursuit Boats DC 365 – Installed a Seakeeper 3 in the aft bilge, achieving an incredible 87% roll reduction during sea trials. That’s the difference between enduring the water… and actually enjoying it.

• Luhrs 320 – Outfitted with a Seakeeper Ride 600 system, and this one you can experience for yourself. We’re now offering demo rides so you can feel the difference firsthand before making the decision for your own vessel.

As a premier Seakeeper dealer, installer, and service center, we don’t just install systems—we customize solutions for YOUR vessel. And with a Master Certified Seakeeper Technician on staff, you can trust your boat is in expert hands from start to finish.

Whether you’re chasing smoother rides offshore or eliminating roll at rest, we’ve proven—again and again—that we can deliver.

Ready to upgrade your boating experience? Come ride with us and see what you’ve been missing.

Southern Boatworks LLC was proud to assist Seakeeper and Breaux Bay Craft with a Seakeeper 40 sphere exchange for the Houston Pilots.

Pilot transfer vessels operate in demanding conditions every day on the Houston Ship Channel, and reliable stabilization plays a major role in making those transfers safer and more controlled for crews boarding inbound and outbound ships. Supporting projects like this is something we take seriously, and we were honored to be asked to assist with this operation.

During a recent sea trial in approximately 5–6 ft seas with sustained winds around 25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots, the vessel achieved an impressive 87% roll reduction. The combination of the Breaux Bay Craft hull design and Seakeeper stabilization performed exceptionally well in challenging real-world operating conditions.

Large-frame gyro work such as the Seakeeper 40 requires specialized handling, coordination, structural awareness, and shipyard-level capability. Projects like this demonstrate Southern Boatworks’ ability to support advanced stabilization system exchanges, installations, and service work for both recreational and commercial vessels.

We welcome opportunities to work with pilot associations, vessel operators, and builders requiring Seakeeper installation support, sphere exchanges, lift handling coordination, or stabilization service projects along the Gulf Coast.

Thank you to Seakeeper and Breaux's Bay Craft for the opportunity to collaborate on keeping these mission-essential vessels operating at their highest level.

Cathodic bonding is one of those boat systems that often gets misunderstood. Many people have heard the term, but there is still a lot of confusion about what it actually does, whether it is required, and how it should be installed.

In this post I’ll try to explain what cathodic bonding is, the basic requirements, whether it’s required or not, and touch on some relevant points from the 2025 revision of the ABYC E-2, Cathodic Protection standard.

WHAT IS CATHODIC BONDING?
Simply put, cathodic bonding is the electrical interconnection of metal objects in common contact with water, to the grounding bus, and to the source of cathodic protection.

In most boats, that source of protection is a sacrificial anode—typically zinc, aluminum, or magnesium.

The main purpose of the bonding system is to make sure that all metal components that are sharing the same electrolyte (the surrounding water) are electrically connected so they can receive protection from the anodes. All metals that are to receive cathodic protection from the cathodic protection system must have a maximum resistance of one ohm to the cathodic bonding system anode.

IS CATHODIC BONDING REQUIRED?
This is one area where people often get confused.

Cathodic protection itself is not required by ABYC standards. But if a boat does have a cathodic protection system installed, then that system must comply with the requirements of ABYC E-2.

This is an example of “if installed” requirement. In other words, the system may be optional but if it’s there, it needs to meet the standard.

BASIC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The E-2 standard outlines several key requirements for how cathodic bonding systems should be installed.

Parallel Connections:
Each underwater metal component that is protected by a cathodic protection system must be wired in parallel with a single connection to the cathodic bonding system.

The bonding buses themselves, however, may be wired in series.

Bonding Conductors:
The bonding conductors must be made from materials that hold up in the marine environment. The standard specifies that they should be:

- Oil-resistant, insulated, tinned, stranded copper wire, or
- Uninsulated copper strip

Copper braid and copper tubing are not allowed for cathodic bonding conductors.

Minimum Conductor Size:
When wire is used as the bonding conductor, the minimum size must be #8 AWG or larger.

If the bonding conductor is also serving as part of the lightning protection system, the conductor must be at least the equivalent of #6 AWG.

Cathodic bonding isn’t complicated, and it is an important part of protecting underwater metals on a boat. While the system itself is not required, any installed cathodic protection system must meet the ABYC E-2 requirements.

For more information, refer to the ABYC E-2 or contact ABYC Standards and Compliance Department.
