School started this week so back into that routine… This boat is a full time job on its own but we will make it happen still. Luckily get to take advantage of this long weekend and get some much needed hours into the boat.

Have begun laying some deck down and getting her sealed up!! Snagged a couple photos to give you the idea of what’s going on inside.

You’ll see one of our American Made Freeman Hatches in place. This will allow full access below deck whether for stowage or needing to get in and reset switches on the bilge pumps. Each compartment is getting one of these.

On #001 I also made the decision to hand weld the entire weld seam of the gunwale 100’+ of tig welding. Which is a very time consuming task but makes for a great finished product. Being that I chose to give this vessel some flare and aesthetic in the shear line. You put yourself in a position that requires you to have a lot more welding due to the fact you can’t just bend the parts to create these lines like you could if the shear line was straight.

Also put a picture up to show how the deck scuppers will work. The deck sits just above the bottom of the side shell cut out allowing water to easily pass out with no resistance.

As always thank you for everyone that has been following along. Think it’s a great opportunity to give insight on what all goes into a build of this nature. An extremely long episode of how it’s made. Thank you for those that are repping the Narrows Brand, can’t begin to express how cool that is for me.

Blocked and loading up. As we progress through these next stages the boat really starts to change drastically by the day.

Thought we’d get some pictures up so everyone could see the shear lines that I feel will set this vessel apart. We have a great flow going on in this design.

Outside of our shear line having flow, in addition we’ve included a subtle pitch to our gunwale to allow water to flow off and stay out of our deck.

Got our false transom in place today and added our back deck allowing access outside and around the twin Yamahas that will be powering this tank.

Can’t wait till we get the pilot house on, should really bring this whole vision together. The roof we’ve designed to allow maximum coverage and give it a sportier feel is my personal much anticipated piece.

As always thank you for all of the support and assistance in getting the Narrows brand out. This is, and will be a community brand that we’re very blessed to be developing right here in the Thousand Islands. The assistance we’ve received locally from businesses and individuals is just such a blessing. We love to call the Thousand Islands home and can’t wait to flood the St. Lawrence with Narrows Boats.

Took our hull for a spin today. Big shoutout to the boys down at St. Lawrence Restoration Co for their professionalism and expertise. Knew we were in good hands immediately, didn’t sweat it for a second. And again big shoutout out to Clayton Marina, Steve Lavarnway, and Darin Barton for transport to and from. She’s now blocked up back at the shop for its final stages of metal work!!!

She’s in the daylight!! Off the jig and blocked up, big thanks to FMI Sand and Gravel as well as the crew from Clayton Marina getting us to this stage.

Ice doublers are installed, bow, bow hinges and all of the bottom seam welds are complete. Wanted to take a step back and ensure we had the right plan in place to roll her over. Last thing we’d want to do is make a wrong move and add to the work we already need to complete.

So tomorrow will be a big day getting her right side up so we can get this girl finished.

Good week at NBW. We were able to get the transom set and both bottom plates in place. The boys learned pretty fast it’s far from a quick process.

Looking forward to this next week to come as we will be placing our side shells. Get those in place and weld everything out. Once we accomplish this it’ll be time to flip her over.

The boat is finally starting to take shape. Can’t wait to roll it.

Just some insight on who I am behind the Narrows Boat Works brand. As I’ve said, super grateful for anyone who has followed/shared this page or has purchased some merchandise from the store.

My name is Troyer Gill, I am born and raised here locally in thousand islands region. I went to Alexandria Central School as well as attended the welding program at the Bohlen Technical Center in Watertown my Junior-Senior year of highschool.

After highschool I did 4 years of college two at Mohawk Valley CC and 2 at SUNY Oswego. After that I took my first job welding at Metal Craft Marine when they were located in Cape Vincent. Grateful for that year as I learned so much about building boats and particularly aluminum welding and fabrication.

From there I took a chance and moved myself to Fort Lauderdale Florida to work for All Points Boats. There I enhanced my knowledge of boats and welding fabrication. Worked on many major projects, refitting, hull repairs, specialty fabrication on super/mega yachts.

After a year plus there I followed some guys I worked close with Into the government end of boats. I spent 3 years doing civilian contract work on Government Vessels. I did work in many Naval bases around the country with my longest placement of 8 months at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

From there I felt I was ready to invest in myself and struck up my own business to do marine specialty welding. I was contracted out to do major repairs and outfitting work on Yachts and Commercial Shipping vessels primarily in South Florida. I did this for 2-3 years before deciding it was time to settle in and come home.

I took a job at the Bohlen Technical Center as the second welding instructor to try and give back to a place that assisted me in giving me my pathway to the current career I am so blessed to have. In the past three years I have done my best to assist those that are likeminded as myself to pursue a career in welding.

Since being there I’ve always felt that it was of my best interest to pursue my passion of building boats that I’ve had for serious intent of 5 years. To attempt and provide a place where individuals pursuing a career path in welding could possibly have a place to fulfill this goal.

I have now been fortunate enough to have people in my corner to see my vision and have just as much intent as myself to establish something that could fulfill just that.

What you’ll find when hull 001 comes to life is a combination of vessels I’ve had the privilege of working on from all over the world. We have developed this vessel trying to incorporate every structural advantage I’ve seen throughout my travels.

Once we’re done getting the hull built, we will be passing it off into good hands at Clayton Marina. They will be doing all of the rigging and electrical work that needs to be done to get her in the water. 001 is going to be powered by twin Yamaha 150s each having its own pick up from the custom built 109 gallon aluminum tank.

My intent is to have a sound vessel that when people purchase or are out on it. They have no doubt that it is everything and anything they would hope it would be. Can’t wait to deliver all that I have learned from the years I spent away from home and to have these vessels flooding the St. Lawrence River.

To my future customers, I thank you for believing in this product. And can’t wait to get you in a Narrows.

Myself and two of my welding students I’ve had the privilege to instruct out at the Bohlen Technical Center in Watertown. We’ve been busy since material for 001 arrived two weeks ago

Since arrival we have separated parts, prepped like crazy, taught and learned, built our structure jig, started assembling the boat taught and learned some more. Currently have all our deck longitudes, frames, bottom plate longitudes, and chine plates on top of the jig very close to installing our bottom plates.

Looking forward to getting our transom in place, bottom on her, side shells installed and give it a good turnover so we can give her unique shear line some spotlight. Once we get some plate down I’ll post more photos of our progress. Not that this is top secret but somethings are better seen in person than on a screen. You don’t have to buy a boat to be supportive, spending your hard earned money and repping the Narrows brand does not go unnoticed.
