This week is Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, a time to honor the dedicated individuals nationwide who work tirelessly to save animals and uplift animal welfare. As part of our first responders and emergency services network, animal control officers often go unnoticed. Yet, they courageously face many of the same challenges as law enforcement, all for the sake of the animals in our community.

Some of their responsibilities include:
- Investigating animal-related complaints, from bites and attacks to cruelty and neglect, ensuring the safety and welfare of all creatures.
- Fostering strong community relationships through education on responsible pet ownership, animal safety, and relevant laws.
- Caring for and ensuring the welfare of all animals held by MCACC providing compassion and support.
- Operating an after-hours line, often as the sole on-call officer, exemplifying their dedication to the mission.
