Last weekend saw some of the worst fishing of the year because the river came up from hot weather and the low fish numbers coming by Miles Lake sonar. The weather has continued to be very warm and the river is continuing to rise. We believe fishing this weekend will be very poor so Sam and I have made the tough decision of closing for the season. If you had reservations for this weekend please check your emails. We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience to our customers and we hope to see you next year.

Dip netting will only be open on Fridays at noon until Sunday at noon through the month of August per the emergency order from ADF&G. We will be closing for the season on the 15th of August. We only have a few reservation spots open for the night of the 15th, other than that we are fully booked.
If you have reservations, please remember that our opening time in the morning has changed to 5:45 am instead of 4:45 am because of the darkness.

REST OF THE SEASON!
Chitina personal use dip netting will only be open from Friday at noon until Sunday at noon through the month of August. If you have reservations with Hem and Copper River charters Mondays through Fridays check your emails. Please note the time changes for Friday charters. I am sorry I haven’t done any posts before now, quite frankly I don’t really know what to say. The fish numbers are not good at Miles Lake sonar. Fishing closes Sunday the 26th at midnight and won’t reopen until Friday the 31st at noon until Sunday the 2nd at noon for a 48hr opener.
 There will be a major announcement on Wednesday the 29th from fish and game for what will happen in the month of August. My guess, and it is just a guess, is that most, if not all of August will be closed.

PERSONAL USE DIPNETTING IN CHITINA WILL REOPEN TOMORROW THE 16th at 12:01 AM and will remain open now by emergency order until Sunday the 26th at 11:59 PM.
Sam and I anticipate fishing to be good through this timeframe based on sonar numbers for the past several weeks. We have lost a lot of fishing time this season due to closures. When the season has been open, the fishing has been very good. There’s no telling what the future holds so catch them while you can.

Although the numbers have been climbing at the Miles Lake sonar they’re still behind their minimum escapement goal for this time of year and we will probably continue to see closures throughout the rest of the season.  FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND REPORT
With just a few exceptions all of our customers did extremely well this weekend. Sonar numbers have been climbing tremendously in the last week and when they do open the personal use fishery backup fishing should be very good.
The personal use fishery closed at midnight last night and will not be open at all this week. On Wednesday the 8th, a new emergency order will come out for the week of July 13th through July 19th. I will do another post as soon as that order comes out. We are anticipating that they will only open it three maybe four days for the weekend, Thursday or Friday through Sunday. We only have a few openings left for that weekend, but the good news is with the numbers coming up. They may give us more fishing opportunity towards the end of July and into August.

PERSONAL USE DIPNETTING CLOSED THE ENTIRE WEEK OF JULY 6TH-12TH 
ADF&G has closed dipnetting due to the low sonar counts passing Miles Lake. Although the numbers have started to climb in the last few days, they are still 84,000 salmon or 21% below what they projected for this time of year. They will put another emergency order on Wednesday, July 8th for the week of July 13-19 .
We are recommending to all our customers who get canceled or are planning on making reservations to do so towards the end of July and into the first three weeks of August. Days fill up fast, so you might need to do an overnight trip. We will be very flexible if they open up days later in the season that are closed now on the preseason schedule to allow you to rebook your reservation on one of those days.

The Chitina personal use fishery is closed until Friday July 3rd at 12:01 AM this week and will remain open through 11:59 PM Sunday July 5th. There will be another emergency order put out this Wednesday for the following week of July 6th through July 12th. I will do an update Wednesday evening with the new information.
 Considering the ADF&G sonar counter says there’s not large numbers of fish in the river, our customers did extremely well this past weekend.

ADF&G has restricted the next dipnet opening starting Monday the 29th 12:01 AM and it will be closed until Friday 12:01 AM.
If you have reservations for Monday the 29th or Thursday the 2nd please check your email!!!!!!! It will then stay open Friday 12:01 AM through Sunday the 5th at 11:59 PM. This type of schedule will probably continue until the fish numbers at Miles Lake sonar really start to rise and we’re hoping that will happen. 
We are recommending to make reservations more towards the end of July and into August. For everything you need to know about chartering with us or to make reservations or cabin rentals, please visit our website at.

The river is extremely high right now and we are becoming limited on spots, but if the river drops and more spots open, we will add those to our reservation system.
