💚🌿 This week we are talking about something tender.

Sometimes clutter is not just clutter. Sometimes it is grief and others, it is a memory. It is a version of yourself you are not quite ready to let go of yet.

And that is okay.

Objects carry genuine emotional weight. Keeping them can feel like keeping connection to a person we lost, a relationship that ended or a chapter of life we are still processing.

There comes a point where the weight of the past starts to crowd out the space for the present and that is worth paying attention to.

Letting go does not mean forgetting. It means choosing to carry the memory in your heart instead of every corner of your home.

You can honor the past and still make room for today.

Sunday Reset

Before the week starts, walk through one space and do a quick 5-minute tidy. Not a deep clean, just returning anything stray to where it belongs.

If you're prepping for a move, use this moment to start a "maybe" pile you'll revisit before anything gets packed.

A Word from Sloan

I've seen so many moves where people pack everything just to feel like they're making progress, only to unpack the exact same clutter into their new home. A move is a rare chance to actually start over. Don't waste it by moving everything you were already trying to get away from.

Did You Know

Did you know? Items packed with a "sort it later" mindset are far less likely to ever get sorted, they tend to stay sealed in a garage or closet for months or years after the move.

If you're not ready to decide, that's usually a sign it's not making the trip.

Small Wins

Small win of the week: donating one box of things you decided not to move, instead of packing it "just in case."

That's one less box to carry, unpack, and eventually deal with anyway.

Mind + Space Connection

Moving is already one of life's most stressful transitions. Carrying unnecessary clutter into it just adds more weight, literally and mentally.

Letting go before the move isn't extra work, it's one less thing to carry into your next chapter.

Your Weekly Challenge

Pick one box you'd normally pack without thinking, and sort it fully before it gets taped shut. Keep, donate, or toss, no "figure it out later."

See how much lighter that one box feels.

The SloanyCo Method

Moving is the best decluttering opportunity you'll get all year. Here's how to use it:

1. Handle every item, don't pack blind
2. Decide in the moment, not "later"
3. Go room by room, save sentimental for last
4. Ask if it fits the life you're moving into, not the one you're leaving

A fresh start only works if you actually leave some things behind.

This on the Room to Think blog:

A move forces more decluttering decisions in two weeks than most of us make in two years…

Our latest post breaks down how to use moving out as a genuine reset instead of just relocating the same clutter to a new address, plus a simple framework for deciding what actually makes the trip.

Happy

This week, we are holding space for the hard days.

💚🌿If your home is a little overwhelming right now, and cleaning feels impossible, this is for you.

When we are struggling with our mental health, our spaces often reflect it first.

When the dishes pile up or the laundry stays on the chair the mess makes your mental health worse. As your mental health declines, the mess worsens.
It is a cycle that is real, exhausting and not your fault.

If that is where you are today, here is what we want you to know: the smallest possible step is always the right step. Not a full clean. Not a reorganization. One surface. One corner. One bag.

And if it truly feels like too much to face alone, asking for help is not a weakness, it is wisdom. It is strength.

💚You deserve a space that supports you, especially on the hard days.
