The number of bedrooms matters, but it doesn’t tell you what a move will cost on its own.

A short local move handled by three movers and one 24-foot truck took 2 hours and 30 minutes, with a final paid total of $714.65.

A one-bedroom apartment move within Hyde Park came to $1,010.

Why the difference?

The answer can be found in the practical details: stairs, elevators, parking, carrying distance, inventory, packing requirements, truck size and the number of movers needed.

This is why a realistic moving estimate has to be based on the actual job. A general online average can’t account for the conditions at each property.

MOOvers Chicago has earned a place on the Inc. 5000 for the second year in a row.

The company first joined the national list in 2025. In 2026, it returned after recording 86.45% revenue growth over three years. That result came from years of practical work led by President Cezar Daniel Iordan.

Daniel started MOOvers Chicago in 2014 as a student with one van. As the company grew, he built clear systems for estimating, scheduling, dispatch, crew training and customer communication. Today, MOOvers Chicago operates from two Chicago locations, has about 30 vehicles and has completed more than 20,000 moves.

Making the Inc. 5000 twice shows that the growth was not limited to one good year. It came from building a team and an operation capable of supporting more customers without losing focus on the work.

Our 2025 Chicago Moving Market Intelligence Report analysed 2,599 residential moves worth a combined $3.74 million across 18 Chicago neighbourhoods.

We’re now looking more closely at individual moves and the decisions that shaped their prices.

One $6,500 move from the West Loop to Naperville demonstrated an important point: the city pickup can set the pace and price of the entire move.

Elevator schedules, curb access, long carrying distances and building rules can use up a substantial part of the moving time before the truck leaves Chicago.

In another case, Mark saved more than $1,300 on his two-bedroom move from Wicker Park to Naperville. It was still a 10-hour, full-service move completed by four movers.

These case studies provide real reference points and show how a moving plan is built around the property, access, distance and work involved.

Incredible move. On an 80-degree day, the building had NO air conditioning. MOOvers also had to contend with an elevator unable to accommodate a couch and proceeded to CARRY the couch five floors to our new place. The support team was professional in every way and a real pleasure to work with. MOOvers made what could have been a very hectic day a smooth, comfortable and successful transition all around. They worked for, and delivered, the highest rating we could give them, well deserved!! Thank you MOOvers. The Cusacks

Why Do Moving Times Vary So Much?

People often ask how long their move will take before explaining the stairs, elevators, parking, packing requirements or complete inventory.

Those details aren’t minor. They shape the entire moving plan.

Alexandra’s two-bedroom interstate move from Chicago to Pittsburgh involved an estimated 580.5 cubic feet and 3,975 pounds. The move required apartment-building coordination, three movers and one 26-foot truck. Pickup was completed in four hours.

Prakash’s four-bedroom interstate move from Okemos, Michigan, to Orland Park, Illinois, was very different. The estimated shipment was 1,387 cubic feet and 9,709 pounds.

That move was planned across two days with three movers, two 26-foot trucks and priority delivery.

Distance matters, but it isn’t the only factor. Building access, shipment size, weight, parking and the number of trucks can all change the timeline.
