Well, this is pretty cool. Kevin from Ifak360 wrote a great article about the importance of being prepared while overlanding and he's got a link to the video I did on their first aid modules (which are great). Make sure to give IFAK a follow and if you need anything first aid related, they're a great resource!
Overlanders plan for what happens when the truck gets stuck.
Recovery gear, tools, extra water, navigation, communications, and spare equipment all have a place because being miles from pavement changes what a small problem can become.
But what happens when the problem isn't the truck?
Medical preparedness deserves the same thought.
Where is your first aid kit when the truck is fully packed? Can you get to it quickly? Does everyone traveling with you know where it is? What can you actually handle with the supplies you carry? And if there's no cell service, what's your communication plan?
Think about your medical gear the same way you think about recovery gear. You don't carry a recovery strap because you expect to get stuck. You carry it because having the right capability matters when you need it.
Jason Fletcher from All Things Overlanding recently incorporated IFAK360 into his own setup and permanently mounted it in his truck. I really like that approach because the medical equipment becomes part of the vehicle instead of another bag buried underneath camping gear.
Your setup doesn't have to look exactly like Jason's or mine. It should make sense for your vehicle, passengers, destinations, experience, and the places you actually travel.
