Sometimes the most important part of the job goes far beyond onboard safety.

We're recognizing the onboard crew of Rock Island Train 402, Michael Hensley, Anthony Bruce and Michael Wellner, for their compassion and professionalism when they encountered a young person in crisis near Auburn Gresham Station.

After noticing the individual on the tracks, the crew quickly responded, helping the person to safety, remaining with them, and treating them with dignity and kindness while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Multiple customers took the time to commend the crew, noting how calmly and respectfully they handled an incredibly difficult situation.

Thank you, Michael, Anthony and Michael, for demonstrating the care, compassion, empathy and dedication that define excellent customer service and embody Metra's commitment to serving our communities.

The DuPage Railroad Safety Council's Biennial Safety Summit is approaching! Join us on October 21 for this free event, sponsored by both the DuPage Railroad Safety Council (DRSC) and Metra.

The summit brings together railroad professionals, public safety officials, government partners, educators, and community stakeholders to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and advance railroad safety throughout our region. You are invited to attend in person or virtually.

This year's focus is Reducing Su***de Risk. Attendees can look forward to:

- Expert presentations on su***de prevention, the media's role, and engineering behavior through technology

- Updates on railroad safety initiatives and best practices

- Opportunities to network with railroad, public safety, and community partners

- A complimentary lunch for in-person attendees

What a start to the week! We had an amazing time showcasing our Stadler train set at the American Public Transportation Association TRANSform and Expo at McCormick Place. This 100% battery powered train set is the first in the country and anticipated to start running in 2028 on the Rock Island Beverly branch.

Metra and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will provide additional service for runners and spectators attending the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday. CTA is planning to have added capacity on several rail lines as needed, while Metra will offer extra early morning inbound and midafternoon outbound trains on three lines.
