Built Today. Better Travels Tomorrow.

Public investment in infrastructure is about more than replacing what has worn out. It's about building a railroad that can serve riders safely and reliably for decades to come. These state of good repair improvements and infrastructure maintenance projects are an ongoing need.

At 94th Street and 105th Street on the Beverly Subdivision, Metra renewed railroad crossings by replacing aging crossing surfaces, upgrading the signal equipment, and strengthening infrastructure where the roadway and rail lines intersect. These improvements help reduce maintenance related disruptions, improve crossing reliability, and support smoother train operations. Crews are able to spend less time on unexpected issues and more time on delivering quality service.

For riders, the benefits add up over time as each crossing is addressed. There are fewer infrastructure related delays, improved on-time performance, and enables Metra to be more equipped to maintain schedules. While a crossing renewal may seem like a small project, each upgrade is part of a larger investment strategy that helps keep trains moving safely and efficiently throughout the system.

The end result is a stronger, more reliable rail network that supports better travel today and shorter, more consistent trips in the future.
