Today is an important day to reflect on the ways that we can stop discrimination and impact change in our communities.

As recently as 2021, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that it will administer and enforce the Fair Housing Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of s*xual orientation and gender identity.

Staggering facts include a high percentage of LGBTQ folks take steps to avoid mistreatment at work (by hiding their identity) and discrimination in the housing market against q***r people, which still occurs.

Clients of AMTR have expressed past experiences of discrimination, not having their pronouns recognized by movers, and movers poking fun at folks over s*x toys, packers, and suspension equipment.

AMTR exists as an alternative to traditional companies that often prioritize profit over people. We're proud to be a q***r owned organization that offers affirming services and a safer way to transition. Still, we look forward to the day when specialized companies like ours are not needed to ensure acceptance/ safety. Sending lots of gratitude to outspoken organizers and anarchist activists. As we wish everyone a safe and happy new year, we wanted to re-post our COVID safety measures. As a small business that started at the beginning a pandemic, we've done our best to be diligent in protecting our clients and our team. Our entire team is at least double vaccinated and will be aiming to get our boosters by the new year.

---- Valentina, Please Keep On Your Mask ----

Regardless of vaccination, the AMTR team will continue to wear masks on moves. We will continue to do so when moving in/out of people's homes until there are no longer any indoor mask restrictions in place.

We are asking clients to wear masks during moves at this time, regardless of vaccination status. We know from data in the past year that the risk of transmission is lower when both parties wear masks. As a small team, we ask for your help in protecting our team as best as possible.

Winter Tip: During the Winter it's more energy efficient to not run the heat while your movers are moving in/out of the space. We suggest using a space heater in a room after it's been cleared out of our team, to help your comfortability during a move.

---- If Our Team Test Positive ----

If someone on our team has contracted COVID we will contact clients that have worked with teammates up to 3 days before they started showing symptoms, or up to 5 days before a positive test result. Ensure that teammates that have tested positive will be properly quarantined.

Per CDC recommendation: Any teammate(s) that share moves with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 (aka has been in close contact), that teammate may still be on moves as long as they have no symptoms. The teammate(s) will ensure to double-mask until they have gotten tested. If there are major concerns they will quarantine until a negative test result.

---- If Your Household tests Positive ----

If you or a household member that shares the space our team moves in/out of has tested positive for COVID-19, we ask that you notify our support team at [email protected].

You have a right to the privacy of your test results, however, we are asking as a small business to ensure the safety of our staff and other community members that we may move in the future.
We can assure confidentiality is important to us.

---- Scheduling ----

For safety reasons, please let us know alternative move dates that would work for you. We would rely on these dates in the event we need to reschedule due to quarantining teammates.

In the event that we can not complete a move and there are no alternative dates, we will issue a refund. We would appreciate your patience and understanding at this time, as we believe safety is the number one priority.

Hey folks! A Move to Remember here!

It’s been a while since we’ve dropped a post, and we wanted to extend a thank you for the support you all have provided over this summer (and truly since we started last year)! A lot of our business this year has been via word of mouth, and we have truly adored seeing folks mention us on the Chicago Q***r Exchange. It’s truly appreciated. We’re only a year and a half old, and our moving team has accomplished so much. Additionally, we have learned several lessons leading us towards better ways to support our community. We’ve connected with several small business owners this last-year, which has been so helpful in terms of team morale.

It’s now our off-season, which means that the moving industry is starting to slow down. The leadership team from A Move To Remember has a lot of new things rolling out at the start of 2022: A new CRM / Customer Management Portal that’ll be linked directly on our website; stronger phone support; a roll-out of blog posts offering moving advice; and more experienced training in harm reduction, mediation, and emergency support resources. Any feedback, recommendations, or suggestions have been taken seriously and we’re so looking forward to things starting to plateau a bit in the coming year.

Y’alls support has allowed us to offer 82 moves to participants of housing programs that help keep folks housed, and offered 27 emergency moves since our establishment as a company. We’ve been able to offer 30%/50% rate reductions to survivors of domestic violence, or folks moving out of threatening situations. We know this only helps folks so much. We have ideas on how to support the community further in the future, and hope to be able to pursue those plans.

A Move to Remember is a full-service LGBT-owned professional moving company. We offer moving/packing services, labor-only services (for load/unloads), mini-move services, and furniture pick-ups and deliveries. We offer local moves within the City-of-Chicago and the greater Chicagoland area, as well as long-distance moving within the Midwest [We’re keeping it central right now, however, we have a partner q***r moving company in NYC and can move people from Chicago>NYC].

It’s our mission to provide safer and affirming moving experiences for folks within the LGBTQ+ Community, black/brown folks, and survivors of domestic violence. Our team is a diverse team of q***rs and allies, and have absolutely loved all of the folks they’ve gotten to meet over the last year. We’re looking forward to meeting even more rad folks.

We offer hourly rates for packing services, standard moves, and flat rates for furniture pick-ups and mini-moves (mini-moves are defined mostly as “the one roommate moving just a bedroom’s worth of items.” We came up with this flat-rate factor after realizing how many single individuals wanted to support our company.) These prices are listed on our website, https://amovetoremember.com/. We’ve got crews of 2 to 6 on moves and own a 17’ and 19’ truck to support any size move.

Any small businesses who could use some transportation and moving support can reach out to us as well. Anyone who owns property can expect and appreciate a team that does its best to take care during moves (and can connect you with a team of real estate professional referrals to support you through your first-property purchase or your multi-property purchases).

We'd like to introduce you to Chris today!
(Chris' pronouns are he/him)

Chris has been another member of this band of movers that'll get your job done. Chris has learned a lot working with us and is always quick to support the team when it's in need.

Chris' passions include music, soccer and basketball. During lunch breaks in between sweating on our moves, you can catch him relaxing by watching sports highlights, and keeping up with scores. When he's not watching highlights he's often talking about music equipment & ways he's looking to elevate his sound.

Chris' future goals are focused on his passion for music. In his free time, he plays guitar and is set to start a band that he can jam with. He'd like to make an album, and hopes to play live shows again now that restrictions are starting to be lifted. Chris also cares about his family, and his future goals include spending more time with his siblings.

Our team includes so many diverse artists, just as our clients include so many diverse artists as well. Here at A Move To Remember we hope to see all of our teammates flourish and follow their dreams. We're lucky to have such an amazing team!

Evie is another strong lifter who keeps your move as smooth-sailing as possible. Their energetic energy keeps conversations light with our clients and their passion means our clients are in good hands.

Their energetic personality doesn't just happen on moves with A Move To Remember. They bring that energy to all of their passions. A hobby that Evie pursues is drag, and they've got talent! You can follow their drag and shenanigans at ! Their future goals also include further exploring the boundaries of their drag, and she is always looking for things that inspire her.

Other passions of Evie include dungeons and dragons and cooking. When Evie's not working, they're usually trying out new recipes in the kitchen. They're always looking to push their skills further in the kitchen. If you've got a family recipe you ever wanna share, please share it with Evie! (It can be our secret 🤫)

Our teammates who are involved in the arts always bring their own strengths to the team. Our teammates are quick on their feet and understand the logistics of the move are just like putting on a show. There's a cadence to moves, and regardless of moving complications - we know the show must go on, and when it does with us, we keep it fun!

Today meet another person from our team, Elliott!

Elliott's one of the newest members of our team who'll be lifting your boxes and packing your truck come moving day! Elliott's background includes studying sociology and gender & women's studies at UIC. Their passions include prison and police abolition, influencing one of their goals to be supporting formerly incarcerated LGBTQIA+ folks.

Outside of making a difference in their professional & personal endeavors, they unplug by finding new music to listen to & by going hiking in nature. In their free time they like spending time with their family & their many dogs. Another future goal of theirs is to get over their fear of airplanes. Until then we'll be practicing with Elliott using our Lift Gate. 💪🏻

We'd like to introduce you to Pip today!
(Pip's pronouns are he/him)

Pip's another one of the team leads that will be handling your things on the day of your move. It's worth highlighting that Pip is one of two of our team members who know American Sign Language. Pip's relation to ASL is through a sibling, but if you're in need of accessible moving services - Pip's got you!

Prior to A Move To Remember, Pip worked as a guitar tech for bands like Devil Wears Prada and Beartooth. We brought Pip on close to the beginning of our organization of A Move To Remember, and his experience from touring has been invaluable to the team.

Pip's experience and patience means that our new crew members are trained at a comfortable and confident pace. And our clients can expect a calm and steady move for their experience.

When Pip's not out in the field, you can catch him jamming on his guitar, playing darts or playing golf. Once in a while Pip bartends, now that things are opening up, and he can make a mean cocktail.

Pip's future goals include going back on tour starting this fall, and to continue their professional growth in the music/entertainment industry. He'll definitely be missed while he's in and out of A Move To Remember during his tour stints. We're always happy to support the future endeavors of our teammates, and know our team (and surely our clients) will always be happy to have him back!

If you've had us help you pack and move, chances are you've met Lindsay. Lindsay's leadership and organizational mindset means boxes are well-packed and and spaces are prepped for our movers to get right down to business. This all ensures moving is a good time for our clients.

In addition to being a part of A Move To Remember, Lindsay has a cleaning company, Obscene Clean, also tailored to assist the q***r community. In their free time, you can see Lindsay hoarding plants, attempting to read one of their many books, or finding a new way to add rainbows to their home decor.

Obscene Clean () is a q***r ran company that focuses on the community, serving q***rs that need standard cleans, moving cleans, those who have depression homes that need assistance, and those that need organizing. Nothing is too dirty or weird at OC; as an alternative family, s*x, and kink-positive company, along with a huge lover of dogs, cats, and other animals, the team is always ready to take on a new place.
