Service Advisory: Weekend/Holiday Schedule June 26, 2026

Passengers are advised that the South Shore Line will resume Lakeshore Corridor and Monon Corridor service with the operation of a WEEKEND/HOLIDAY train schedule on Friday, June 26, 2026, utilizing busing between Miller and Hegewisch stations. This temporary operational change is a result of a June 24 freight train derailment and subsequent power loss. Crews continue to work diligently at the scene, which originally resulted in temporary suspension of all South Shore Line train service.

UPDATE: Crews continue to work diligently at the scene of a freight train derailment/power loss near East Chicago that occurred Wednesday evening, June 24, 2026, which resulted in suspension of all South Shore Line train service.

As of today, Thursday, June 25, partial service will be restored to the Monon Corridor afternoon rush hour only, effective with eastbound Monon Corridor Train #303 departing Millennium Station at 3:30pm. Following Tr 303, departures will include EB Tr 305, Tr 307, Tr 309, Tr 311, and WB Tr 312.

Due to a reported freight train derailment and power loss near East Chicago and Gary Metro, ALL REMAINING SOUTH SHORE LINE TRAIN SERVICE WILL BE SUSPENDED TODAY, JUNE 24, 2026. Passengers are encouraged to find alternate transportation to/from Chicago for the remainder of this evening and potentially Thursday morning rush hour commute.

Crews are working diligently to rectify the situation; however, the timeframe for repairs has not yet been determined. Updates regarding train service on Thursday, June 25, will be made as they become available.

Changes in service will be promptly posted to our website Service Updates, the South Shore mobile app, and via email/text notifications.
