Produce Season Is Changing

If you've been around freight for a while, you know the freight world doesn't stay the same from month to month.
Produce season is winding down, and that means we're starting to see some of those seasonal freight patterns change.

When one type of freight slows down, something else usually starts picking up.
That's one of the things I love about transportation.

You never really get to say, “Well, this is how it's always going to be.”

Because next week could look completely different.

Rates change.
Capacity changes.
Customer needs change.
Weather changes.

And somehow we're all expected to keep up with it. 😂

That's why having someone who watches those changes and understands how they can affect your shipment can be a pretty useful thing.

Freight is constantly moving. And so are we. 🚛

LTL Is More Than Just Weight. Surprised??

One of the biggest misconceptions about LTL freight is that the price is simply based on how much your shipment weighs.

I wish it were that easy. 😂

When I'm working on an LTL quote, there are several things that can affect the rate:

-Weight.
-Dimensions.
-Number of pieces.
-Freight class.
-Commodity.
-Pickup location.
-Delivery location.
-Whether a liftgate is needed.
-Whether it's going to a residence.
-Whether there are special delivery requirements.

Oftentimes one little detail can make a surprisingly big difference.

That's why I ask so many questions when I'm quoting freight.
I'm not trying to make your life difficult. 😂 I'm trying to make sure we're quoting the shipment correctly the FIRST time so we don't end up with surprises later.

The more accurate the information, the better chance we have of getting you the right rate and the right service.

So if you're thinking, “Kris, I just need a price to ship this pallet.”

🚛 The Friday Freight Question

Let's talk about something I hear all the time:

“Can you get this there by Monday?”

Well... maybe. 😂

Transportation doesn't work quite like ordering something online and watching the little tracking bar move across your screen. There are a LOT of pieces involved in getting freight from Point A to Point B.

Pickup availability.

Carrier capacity.

Transit time.

Terminals.

Weather.

Traffic.

Delivery appointments.

And about 47 other things that can pop up between the dock and the destination.

That's why I always tell customers that the more information I have upfront, the better I can help.

What are you shipping? How much does it weigh? How big is it? Where is it going? When does it need to be there?

Give me the details and let me go to work.

Because finding the right transportation solution is a whole lot easier when we know what we're working with.

And yes...

I actually enjoy figuring all of this out. 😂

Back-to-School Traffic 🚗

School is back, which means the roads are getting a little more crowded. More school buses. More morning traffic. More people remembering approximately 4 seconds before leaving the house that they have somewhere to be. 🤷

If you're shipping freight, give yourself a little breathing room on transit times.

Traffic doesn't care about your delivery appointment.

A Little Personal Today

Today I'm putting freight aside for a minute because somebody pretty special to me has a birthday. ❤️

There is something about watching your kids grow up that nobody really prepares you for.

I spent years worrying about scraped knees, school projects, bad decisions, whether she was making good friends, and add a million other things.

Then suddenly she is grown, making her own decisions, building her own life, and im seriously left wondering how the heck that happened so fast. 😂

Being a mom isn't always easy, but watching your kids become the people they're meant to be is pretty damn special.

So today, I'm celebrating my girl and wishing her the happiest birthday.

I hope this next year brings you happiness, adventure, good health, big dreams, and plenty of reasons to laugh.

Happy Birthday! 🎂❤️

And yes... you'll always be my baby. That's just how this works. 😂

Well, hello September! 🍂

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm always a little excited when September rolls around.

Something about the cooler mornings, football starting back up, the kids settling into school, and knowing fall is right around the corner just feels good.

Of course, in the freight world, a new month means new freight patterns, new challenges, new rates, and probably a few shipments that will make me question every life choice that led me into logistics. 😂
But that's freight. You never really know what the next phone call, email, or quote request is going to bring.

So here's to a fresh month, new opportunities, happy customers, safe drivers, and hopefully a whole lot of freight moving in the right direction.

Let's see what you've got for us, September. I'm ready. 🚛🍂

⛽ Fuel prices continued to test our patience

🚚 And freight kept moving

September is next.

New month.
New freight.
Same coffee.
Same Kris.

The freight industry has taught me a lot.

Patience.

Problem solving.

Communication.

Negotiation.

And that when someone says...
"Don't worry, it's an easy one."

You should probably worry. 😂

Random Saturday thoughts...

There's something about a lazy Saturday that makes you realize...

You survived another week of freight.

And nobody lost a shipment.

Nobody exploded.

Nobody called at 4:59 PM asking for a truck "right now."

That's a successful week in my book.

Freight Confession:

I don't need a therapist.

I need:

✔ A truck that actually answers the phone
✔ A shipper who has the freight ready
✔ A receiver who doesn't change the appointment
✔ A driver who communicates
✔ And a rate that doesn't make me choke on my coffee

Is that really too much to ask?
