I took my father with me yesterday to tow this 38’ Chris Craft from north of the Bay Bridge to Edgewater. I’m glad I started early. That wind kicked up by noon and gave me solid white caps the whole way back to port. 🌊

Boating friends, I just installed my BoatEye360 night vision camera in the Guardian 1. I’m completely impressed so far. Packaging, connections and quality seem to be 10/10. I can’t wait to see what it does on the water.

Aside from the unit being awesome, I had a technical question when I installed it, which happened to be on a Sunday. I called the number on the business card that was in the box that arrived. I completely didn’t expect anyone to answer on the weekend. I received a text message a short time later from the company’s owner. He answered my question while he was offshore fishing in Florida.

I can’t recommend this company enough. The video speaks volumes about its capabilities. Give it a watch!

Guardian Marine LLC had a rather large task yesterday. The “Jewel,” a 54’ Hatteras has been a long time resident of Herrington Harbour South for the last 20 years. The owners lived on her for 18 years “living the life,” according to the owner, but have gotten to the age where it just wasn’t practical. The boat has been sitting for the past three years and it was time to sell it. It wasn’t a long tow to Herrington Harbour North, just a very technical one. A narrow channel in both marinas and being flanked by multiple multi-million dollar boats on both sides didn’t leave a lot of room for error. Everything worked out perfect! I honestly expected to be way more stressed during the tow, but I had deckhands on both boats giving me constant updates on clearances.

Aside from the cool “look at me starting the season” pictures, this also brings attention to the unavoidable fact that everyone gets old, experiences health problems, and has unexpected speed bumps in life that change the way you live. Take those trips, ride that motorcycle, and buy that thing you’ve always wanted-now while you still can. Don’t overwork yourself in your younger years, hoping that retirement will give you the break you need to do the things you want to do. You may not have that opportunity. Be safe out there.

Update: I installed it and I’m blown away with the quality. This will undoubtedly be much safer making those long runs home in the middle of the night. Video in the comments. 😎

I’m upgrading Guardian 1 this year with full color night vision from Boat Eye 360. There have been a lot of dark nights coming back to my port in total darkness. With technology like this available there was no reason not to have it. Radar pings are nice, but I usually just keep away from them. After a local fisherman fell overboard a few months ago. He was likely clinging to the side of his boat for a while in the dark. I realized that I probably would’ve driven right past him. This camera increases the chances of that not happening. It’ll also make locating everything else I’m searching for out there a lot easier too. 😎

If you’re still in the water, keep an eye on your boats this weekend. There is a lot of heavy snow predicted as you’ve surely seen. I’ll be available for refloats and pumping when you need it.

Guardian 1 will be out of service tomorrow 11/18/25.

Not only do I tow and refloat boats, I’m also an active Police Officer that is trained in Search and Rescue. My boat and I have been requested to assist in the search for the missing boater near Chesapeake Beach again.

It has been asked that all civilian vessels give way to vessels displaying red/amber/blue lights. Many of us are towing side scan sonar torpedos behind us or under our vessels. They greatly limit our manuverabity. Maintaining straight lines throughout our search grid also makes sure no areas are missed. Other vessels are welcome to search, but should avoid the area where underwater diving and sonar operations are taking place. Any areas that have been cleared or anything pertinent should be reported to North Beach Firehouse where the base of operations is located.

Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Guardian Marine’s-Guardian 1 was among the fleet of volunteer vessels that donated their time and equipment to the search for this missing captain. Today, I spent more than eight hours towing a side scan sonar torpedo for the Calvert County Rescue Dive Team - Co 12 The three members of that company that I had onboard were great guys. I learned a lot about their operations and look forward to working with them again in the future if they ever need some assistance.

Search Effort for Missing Fisherman

Search operations, under the direction of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, were conducted again today for a fisherman who failed to return home last Thursday. Assets from the Department of Natural Resources Police, Calvert County Dive Team, Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department, St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department, Annapolis City Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Charles County Dive Rescue Team, United States Coast Guard, North Beach Volunteer Fire Department, and more than a dozen citizen watermen participated in the operation.

Unfortunately, today’s exhaustive efforts were not successful in finding the fisherman. Due to impending inclement weather, search operations will need to suspended until Monday or Tuesday of next week.

The North Beach VFD would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who have provided assets, information, and support to the effort. We also ask that everyone keep the family and friends of the missing fisherman in their thoughts.
