During the peak of the summer season, from June through September, Boistfort Valley Water customers use double the typical amount of water used during the rest of the year. The difference highlights the significant amount of water being utilized for outdoor applications, and the need to proactively manage our water resources.
Boistfort Valley Water is implementing an Odd/Even Watering Program for all residential and commercial customers. The program will remain in effect through September 30:
• Exceptions are granted for washing of vehicles, pressure washing, newly planted lawns, and potted or hanging plants. These may be watered as needed to prevent damage and protect your investment. Best practices to use the water efficiently is always encouraged.
Water resources are not an unlimited supply; on days when temperatures soar, local water demand puts a greater strain on our ability to produce and deliver water. We currently use one water treatment plant located on Little Mill Creek in the Boistfort Valley. This surface water source is a natural resource, used locally for a growing population. Rainfall, even in the amounts we experience here in the great Pacific Northwest, does not immediately or completely recharge the creek. Worsening droughts are straining all water utilities nationwide. Water management is a growing concern throughout Washington State. While conservation efforts are important year-round, the impacts of rising summer temperatures and the resulting water demand, makes summertime water conservation efforts that much more important.
There are many ways to conserve water both in and outside your home or business. Participating in the Odd/Even Watering Program and using other simple conservation techniques can cut your summer water usage appreciably and every little bit helps, both in your pocketbook and in your community. Water sparseness is something that’s a concern for everyone’s future. Odd/Even Watering is becoming increasingly common State-wide and we can place reliance on continuing this for summers to come.
With that being said the Board of Directors and Employees at Boistfort Valley Water has promised you we have been working hard towards a resolution with our Adna Plant located on the Chehalis River. We are happy to announce that we are looking forward to a final approval for water distribution on June 1st, 2019 from Washington State Department of Health.
While the lengthy process of Water Rights issues continue with Department of Ecology. We have made tremendous progress in our water rights issue, and continue to push forward in this process. We have great confidence in the professionals we have obtained to resolve this issue.
Thank You again to those who have bestowed your patience and water conservation efforts to us during this last year!
Sincerely,
Boistfort Valley Water Management
