Port Houston just hit record container volumes β€” up 14% YoY in May 2026.

The surge is stretching truck turn times and tightening chassis pools at Barbours Cut and Bayport. For shippers, that means real risk of delays and detention fees.

LCG's Houston fleet secures chassis in advance and works directly with the terminals to keep freight moving β€” even when the yard gets heavy. Read how we stay ahead of the congestion πŸ‘‡

Big development for Port of Savannah freight flows.

GPA opened the Gainesville Inland Port on May 4 β€” a 34 million rail hub connecting northeast Georgia to Garden City Terminal via Norfolk Southern, five days a week.

An estimated 26,000 truckloads per year will shift from highway to rail. That's not the end of drayage at SAV β€” it's a shift in where and when trucks are needed. Containers still move from vessel to rail head, and chassis demand at Garden City will follow.

Our Savannah team is watching the intermodal ramp closely. If you're routing freight through SAV and want to understand what this means for your drayage, reach out.

The US Navy tried to force Hormuz open Monday. Iran fired back. Week 11 β€” the strait is still closed.

363+ vessels clustered near Dubai. Near-zero daily transits (vs. ~135 pre-war). Brent crude at $112/barrel. And BIMCO says it's "not clear the Iranian threat can be degraded."

For shippers moving cargo through HOU, CHS, SAV, NFK, or JAX β€” this isn't background noise. Asia-USEC transits are running 10–14 days longer. Blank sailings are building. LFD exposure is real.

LCG is on the ground at all five terminals. Full breakdown at the link πŸ‘‡

Heads up for our Savannah shippers: Ocean carriers are rolling out rate increases and fuel surcharges β€” and the Strait of Hormuz crisis is why.

Bunker fuel prices have doubled at key global hubs, and MSC just restructured three of its Asia–East Coast service loops, directly affecting SAV schedules.

Expect higher BAF surcharges, longer transit times, and schedule changes on some SAV calls.

Big news for importers: the U.S. tariff refund portal is live. Over 56,000 companies are queued for an estimated $127 billion in recovered duties. CBP is processing refunds within 60-90 days.

The bigger question for our industry: what happens to import volumes when that uncertainty clears? Cargo decisions that were on hold may start moving fast β€” and East Coast ports will feel it first.

Our teams at CHS, SAV, HOU, and NFK are watching closely.

The rate rally stalled. Carriers already filed $2,000 surcharges for May 1.

The 6-week container rate rally has run out of steam β€” but if you're importing through Charleston, Savannah, Houston, Norfolk, or Jacksonville, the Peak Season Surcharges hitting May 1 could more than offset any near-term relief. ZIM's $850 bunker factor is on top of that, effective the same date.

Blank sailings on the Transpacific are already compressing vessel schedules. Now is the time to confirm your LFD dates before the surcharge clock starts.

Big news for Florida importers: CMA CGM's Asia express service (CBX) is adding JAXPORT as a direct port call starting June 2026 β€” weekly direct containers from Asia landing at Dames Point, with 2–3 hour drayage to Central Florida DCs instead of 5–6 hours from Savannah.

New port call = new LFD exposure, new chassis terms, and a tight window to get your drayage provider qualified at DPMT before the first vessel arrives. LCG Freight is already active at Dames Point. We can help you get ready.
