I-285 has connected Georgia for nearly 60 years , now it’s time for a rebuild.

We're reconstructing sections of I-285 West in Fulton and Cobb counties to improve safety, ride quality, and long-term reliability for the nearly 200,000 vehicles that travel the corridor each day.

Learn why the work is needed, why full weekend closures are being used, and how crews are rebuilding the interstate.

Hey, Eastside drivers 👋

Out on the project, crews recently opened the new I‑20 westbound to I‑285 southbound flyover bridge and the I‑20 westbound connecting lane. The new connecting lane will move your I‑285 decision point east of Wesley Chapel Road. Check out these bird’s‑eye‑view photos!

🌧️ Heavy rain in the forecast? Stay alert and report road hazards to 511. 📲

Don’t drive around barricades. They are there for a reason.⚠️

🚨Treat flashing red lights as a 4-way stop. 🛑

Flooding can happen in minutes, and even a small amount of moving water can carry a vehicle away. ⏱️ If you see water over the road, play it safe and remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Again, if you see flash flooding, downed trees, or other obstructions, call 511 to help keep Georgia roads safe.

Is this closure for the World Cup? ⚽
No, this is part of a long-term investment in Georgia’s infrastructure.
The I-285 West project is a 3-year rebuild focused on improving safety, traffic flow, and reliability, not a single event.
Better roads are coming, this is just the beginning.
