🧇 It’s National Waffle Day, which is basically a religious holiday. Let’s be honest - I’ve built entire vacation days around a waffle. Mickey waffle at breakfast? Non-negotiable. Belgian waffle situation on a cruise buffet? I will absolutely go back for seconds and make zero apologies about it.

Here’s my extremely scientific, completely biased ranking of vacation waffles I’ve personally had the pleasure of inhaling:

🥇 Mickey waffles, obviously.
🥈 Any cruise ship waffle bar with unlimited toppings (this is not a personality flaw, it’s a lifestyle).
🥉 Hotel breakfast buffet waffle - you know the one, slightly sad, but still 10/10.

Working on my fall hiking plan the way I work on everything else: 100% Pinterest board, 0% actual trail experience. 🍂 I’ve got the flannel picked out. I’ve got a playlist. What I don’t have is a hike, a location, or any evidence I own hiking boots. But the idea of me on a mountain? Thriving. 🥾 Who’s in for actually making this happen?

I am a LCSW, have a MCJ, have a MHA, and a brain that genuinely loves a color-coded spreadsheet. For a long time I wasn’t sure how those things fit into “travel advisor,” like maybe I needed to pick a lane and be either the empathetic one or the organized one.

Turns out I don’t have to choose. The years I have spent learning to actually listen, to hear what someone isn’t saying, to notice the thing mentioned once and never again, are the same years that have taught me a good trip isn’t really about the itinerary. It’s about paying attention.

And then, yes, I will also build you a folder system I’m unreasonably proud of. Both things are true at the same time. Neither one cancels the other out.

So if you tell me something small, an anniversary, a kid who’s nervous about flying, a parent you lost who always wanted to see Paris, I notice. And it ends up in your trip. On purpose.

That’s the whole business, honestly. Heart and a spreadsheet, working together.

There’s a version of fall that involves pumpkin spice and flannel, and then there’s Oktoberfest. Steins raised under string lights, oompah bands filling the air, pretzels the size of your face, and entire towns dressed in lederhosen and dirndls like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

But Bavaria in autumn isn’t just the festival tents. It’s fairytale castles wrapped in fog, half-timbered villages tucked into the hills, and forests turning gold right on cue. It’s the kind of trip that feels like stepping into a storybook, with really, really good beer.

Here’s the thing about Oktoberfest: the good hotels and tables book up nearly a year out. If this season’s already gone, 2027 is closer than it feels - and now is exactly when that planning needs to start.
