PROGRESS BY PEOPLE: Our Progress by People video series continues with Line Handling Associate Deitrich Dockall, who plays a critical role in ensuring ships arrive and depart safely while maintaining our cruise and cargo docks and other areas. When he’s not tying up some of the world’s largest cruise ships, Deitrich is active in the Port community, donating his time to various employee volunteer projects and serving on the Port’s employee advisory committee, the Captain’s Council. It's team members like Deitrich who make Port Canaveral the Best Port Ever.

IT'S NATIONAL BEACH DAY! Port Canaveral is one of the few ports that boasts its own beautiful white-sand beach popular with families, sun worshippers and surfers the world over. Today we celebrate the sun-splashed memories created on America’s beaches, including our own Jetty Park, and the importance of conserving our precious shorelines for generations to come. Happy National Beach Day, everyone!

THROWBACK THURSDAY - WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN SALT: August marks the 36th anniversary of the opening of Morton Salt’s manufacturing facility located on the Port’s north side. Since opening in 1990 with an initial shipment of 6,000 tons of pool salt, Morton Salt’s operations have grown to an impressive 250,000 tons of salt offloaded and processed annually at North Cargo Berths 1 and 2 – equal to 11.4 million 40-pound salt bags used in pools, water filtrations systems and various industrial applications.

ANOTHER DECADE FOR RUSTY’S AT THE COVE: Port Canaveral is thrilled that Rusty's Seafood & Oyster Bar – a mainstay at The Cove for nearly three decades – has extended their lease agreement for another 10 years, allowing residents and visitors alike to enjoy their tasty menu offerings, refreshing beverages and waterfront views for years to come!

NEARLY COMPLETE: Port Canaveral and contractors Ivey’s Construction and Finfrock held a “topping off” ceremony to celebrate the completion of exterior construction for a new 3,700-space parking garage adjacent to Cruise Terminal 6, the largest and most complex project in Port history opening this fall. Fully funded by Port Canaveral, the new facility will bring the Port’s total parking capacity to nearly 17,500 spaces across eight parking garages and surface lots and further strengthens the Port’s role as an economic driver and job creator in Central Florida. Many thanks to everyone from Ivey’s and Finfrock for their efforts on this groundbreaking project!

STAR POWER: Today marks the one-year anniversary of “A STAR-Studded Celebration,” our “wave out” event that officially welcomed Royal Caribbean’s 248,000-ton Star of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, to Central Florida. Over the past year, nearly 350,000 guests have embarked Star of the Seas via Cruise Terminal 1 to enjoy week-long adventures to the Caribbean and Bahamas. Happy anniversary, Star of the Seas!

THANK YOU SUMMER INTERNS: Port Canaveral bids a fond farewell to Aubree Sangster, Morgan Mitchell, Ahmad Mazhabi, Sydney Williams, Katherine Jones, and Aveada Brown who this week completed their two-month-long internships and are now heading back to college to continue their studies. From projects promoting environmental stewardship and expanding our archives to developing new procedures to improve operational efficiency, these young professionals brought exciting new ideas and endless enthusiasm to the Port each and every day. Thanks for your many contributions and best of luck in your future endeavors!
