I lot of people need to read this
This morning, a few people noticed my daughter walking to school—while I followed behind her.
Some were curious and asked why. Others just gave me that look.
Let me explain.
Yes, she’s only 10.
And yes, she walked—because I told her to.
She forgot how to speak to adults with respect.
She confused her size with authority.
She mistook comfort for entitlement.
So today, she walked.
Because I’m her mother, not her best friend.
Because rides to school are a privilege, not a right.
Because I want her to pause, think, reflect, and learn what it means to be respectful, humble, and grounded.
I followed at a distance to make sure she was safe.
But I also let her feel the weight of her choices.
I’m not afraid of hurting her feelings in the short term.
I’m afraid of raising someone who thinks the world owes her something.
Too many parents fear their child’s anger.
I fear raising an entitled adult.
So yes, she walked today.
Thinking. Reflecting. Maturing.
And I walked behind her—watching, loving, guiding… and teaching.
We’re not here to be their friends.
We’re here to raise kids who grow into friends worth having.
