So, now the stressful part of the season is coming to an end… I hope, for your sake, that is true. Presents have been purchased, wrapped and are ready under the tree! You can concentrate on enjoying the holidays… Congratulations! Time to think of yourself, isn’t it? Time to enjoy a little self care, such as a warm mug of your beverage of choice, your comfy spot and a good book to curl up with. Ah… your time, indeed.
Are you a cat person? When’s the last time you read a short story about a clever feline whose companion is a fantastic wizard? The most wonderful spell-casting cat you’ve ever imagined? Why not try “The Aengels of Our Hearts” and see if it doesn’t lighten yours? Do you like stories about hope and courageousness? Are you inspired by people who sacrifice for others, those who make a stand against the dark and strive for a peaceful world? Then I bid you, read “The Man that Never Was,” ”The Reach of Shaerra’s Hand” and “The Allure of Laughing Eyes.” Those tales will cater to your affinity for good and perhaps even make you smile and leave you inspired.
Do you seek the middle ground in any scenario, look for the central path, easily understand and sympathize with both sides of a disagreement? Then “The Honor of Blood” may appeal to you, or perhaps “He Who Serves the Balance,” or even “Run the Wild.” Learn about the world known as Maera and witness the machinations of its power brokers while you learn the secrets of its cultures. Immerse yourself in an alternate reality, one of immense scale with 12,000 years of history and complex characters with deep motivations. Or are you possessed of darker inclinations?
Do you enjoy a good fright? Maybe you feel invigorated by new, fresh terrors or love imagining the horrors that plague any reality? Explore the macabre underbelly of Maera. Experience the frightening, intriguing, possibly even alluring wickedness of the denizens of the meaner places of this world. Consume tales that set your mind on edge and encourage you not to read while alone. If your idea of self-care is indulging in the horror genre, read “Villains, All” or “The Bubble Swamps of Aentha,” “The Lesson of the Ravaged Man,” “So Many Kisses!” or “The Bad-Bad.” Bathe in the blackness of raw emotions, imagine boggy places and the horrors hidden there, heed the call of your own dark mind. That’s it… relax… let us take you there!
