We've been designing trips for twenty years, and in that time it's become clear that people don't book the same journey for the same reasons.

Some travel for the wild places. Some for the people they'll meet. Some want the hardest version of the route. And some want a balcony, a good coffee, and nowhere to be.

So we built a quiz around it. Two minutes, four possible results:

The Conscious Explorer - you want the wild place, and you want it to still be there in fifty years.

The Refined Relaxer - you've earned your luxury view, and you have no intention of leaving it.

The Immersive Connector - you remember the names of people, not hotels.

The Purposeful Adventurer - you want the hard version, and you want it to count.

You can't just show up and see a gorilla in Rwanda.

The country only sells 96 trekking permits a day - eight for each of the twelve gorilla families across the entire country. Each permit costs $1,500, gets you exactly one hour, and you have to be at least 15 years old to use it.

Two things are happening there:

1. The price means the gorillas are worth more alive than poached - not just to the park, but to the communities living on its edge, whose livelihoods now depend on those animals thriving.
2. The strict limits mean the visits don't undo the good. People can carry illnesses gorillas can catch, and crowds stress them and change how they behave.

And it has worked. Mountain gorillas are the only great ape in the world whose numbers are increasing.

By not letting more people in.

"Travel like a local" is one of the most misunderstood ideas in travel.

When it's mostly about spending less, it can actually take money away from the people it's meant to support.

None of this means avoiding local businesses. It means knowing which ones are actually local, and who ends up with the money.

The difference is usually structural rather than visible. From the street, a guesthouse owned by someone three countries away looks identical to one owned by the family who runs it.

So the question should never be how local you can travel. It should always be about who benefits from you being there.

Some places stay with a child forever.

The trees around him died about six hundred years ago. But they're still standing because it doesn't rain enough here for them to fall down.

He'll want to know how that's possible. The guide will tell him, and he'll ask more questions.

None of them will be about going home.

Rhinos have existed for 50 million years. Right now, there are fewer than 27,000 left in the wild.

The missing horn you're seeing in this video is called ‘dehorning’, one of the most effective conservation interventions keeping this species alive.

The Rhino is sedated, the horn removed, and then it is released back into the wild unharmed, without the one thing that makes it a target to poachers, making its chances of survival much higher.

A 2025 Oxford University study showed that dehorning reduces poaching by 78%, which equates to nearly 2,300 rhinos saved from being attacked.

Fewer poaching attempts mean more rhinos reaching adulthood, and more rhinos reaching adulthood means the species has a future.
