Do you need an excuse to get the kids out of the house while someone wraps their Christmas gifts? Take them to the Wexford County Airport on Christmas Eve and let them talk to Santa on ham radio.
Cadillac’s ham radio club is once again partnering with the Wexford County Airport to provide kids of all ages the exciting opportunity to talk to Santa Claus using an amateur radio transceiver on December 24 from noon to 2:00 pm at the airport.
This is our third year of providing this exciting and unique opportunity for kids, and each year more children show up,” Lyn Cryderman, president of the Wexaukee Amateur Radio Club said. “And not just kids. Last year a couple of moms grabbed the microphone and gave Santa their wish lists.”
Thanks to the Wexford County Airport Board, all guests can enjoy cookies and cocoa. And while they wait for their turn to talk on the radio, they can actually watch Jolly Old Saint Nick on radar soar from the North Pole to homes all over the globe. Then after talking to Santa, they will receive a certificate proving they actually talked to him. And it’s all free!
“This is just another way in which we want to make the airport a resource for the entire community, Keith Newell, airport manager explained. “Who knows, one of these kids might one day pursue a career in aviation. Santa did…”
Mark your calendars: Wednesday, December 24, noon-2:00 pm at the Wexford County Airport, 8040 E 34 Road (Boon Road), Cadillac, MI.
