This park is great for family activity, and has nearly 19 miles of hiking trails. The inn, modern cabins and restaurant provide excellent amenities to visitors, and the nearby lakes provide great opportunity for boating, swimming, and fishing. Plants are $10 each and all proceeds go to the Friends of Montgomery Bell

The access road to the Ballfield, Ballfield parking, and the Ballfield itself will be closed until further notice due to construction. Construction may take a month starting from 9/1/26, and we will give updates as soon as possible regarding any changes.

No other areas are affected at this time.

Update: We are expecting Lake Woodhaven to be accessable through Labor Day weekend, but if water levels fall below the ramp it will be closed.

Please be aware that Lake Woodhaven will be drained starting August 31st, 2026 for a TWRA project.

There were hiccups in the project last year that resulted in putting the project on hold. All parties are ready to move forward now, and we’re excited to get it underway!

Join us September 12th to purchase native plants grown right here in our greenhouse!

As part of Tennessee Serves and National Public Lands Day, we’re excited to host a volunteer event at Montgomery Bell State Park on September 19th! Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to giving back, this is a great opportunity to make a difference for public lands.

This weekend will also coincide with the Girl Scouts Love State Parks event, taking place at state parks across the country. This is a great opportunity for Girl Scouts to give back to the park and help with its natural resource management to benefit visitors and wildlife! 🌱

We asked park staff to give their best vulture impression, who do you think did it best?

Black vultures like Goofy—our ambassador animal—lack the highly developed vocal organ common to other birds. This means they make very unique sounds which can be surprising to some people. Goofy makes an array of noises which include grunts, hisses, and his characteristic screech. Black vultures are very social birds. In the wild they use these diverse vocalizations to communicate with others in a group setting such as around a carcass competing for food. In captivity Goofy uses his voice to communicate a range of emotions. These include excitement, annoyance, or even to signal movement. Although these sounds can be alarming, we still think Goofy and his unique voice are endearing. You can visit Goofy as well as our other ambassador birds at Montgomery Bell’s Visitor Center!

Montgomery Bell’s pollinator garden is getting a re-vamp! 🐝🌿

Thanks to our hardworking volunteers, rangers, and park staff the Visitor Center pollinator garden has been newly weeded, pruned, and labeled. The garden is now a certified monarch waystation, and visitors can even stroll and identify plants themselves!

The park will continue to host volunteer opportunities throughout the year to help maintain the garden. 🦋

An inaugural pollinator themed program will be hosted at the park on August 8th at 10:00 am. We will explore the native plants and pollinators of Tennessee in our newly labeled pollinator garden and work together to conduct a survey of the insects that use the garden! 🌱
