Common Deer was founded on the idea that everything is better with a bit of character. We stock our shelves with goods that are full of story - where it was made, how, who, and why. Focusing on Made in America and small batch manufacturing, we showcase goods from craftsmen and companies that are creating quality products and driving our economy forward from the ground up. Our manufacturers employ

thousands of American workers and support thousands of families. We're often asked the origin of the name "Common Deer" - and yes, it is a play on the word Commandeer. Don't worry, we won't try to steal your ship (unless it's a really ridiculously nice one). We find it best to explain our name with the aid of a pair of hand antlers when saying "Deer" (do it, you'll enjoy it). The name refers to our desire for everyone to live with the "common" good in mind. So go on... Common Deer it. Buy something American Made that supports American workers, spreads out wealth, cuts down on overseas freight pollution, was produced in environmentally and socially conscious ways, and will last longer. While it is not always possible, when you can, please consider buying American Made. We have worked hard to comb the country for our favorite USA made products, and we're excited to share our collection with you. Whether you're shopping online or visiting our shop at 210 College Street in Burlington, VT, please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. Our online shop is just a small sampling of what we showcase in our bricks and mortar shop. So for the full experience, plan a trip in to see much more of our collection! Common Deer is family owned and operated, with support from an amazing group of rockstar employees.

Meet the Makers✨

We’ve been working with Crazy Cat Lady Ceramics for nearly 10 years, and their mugs have become a favorite in the shop. Each one is handmade and full of personality — featuring some Vermont favorites like Bernie Sanders, Noah Kahan, and Phish.

Over the years we’ve collaborated on custom designs together, which makes their pieces extra special to carry. Their work blends humor, local culture, and beautiful handmade craftsmanship, and we’re always excited to see what they come up with next.

Stop by the shop to check out our selection!

STAMP OUT HATE · FREE STAMP FEBRUARY
This is something we started back in 2018, during a moment that felt deeply divided and heavy. We were looking for a simple, human way to push back against the noise, the anger, and the growing sense that people were talking past each other instead of to each other.
Sadly, it feels even more relevant now.
We believe building community and choosing connection is the way through. Constant infighting and divisiveness only distract us from what we actually share and the change we’re capable of making together. Progress doesn’t come from shrinking the table. It comes from pulling up more chairs, making space for conversation, listening with intention, and staying in it together.
STAMP OUT HATE is intentionally analog.
It’s slower. It’s personal. It asks you to pause, write something down, and send it out into the world.
Here’s how it works:
Starting today and through the end of February, for every regular card you purchase in our store, you’ll receive one free postage stamp from us. One card. One stamp. No gimmicks. Just ask for them.
Send whatever kind of card feels right to you. A friendship card. A sympathy card. A thank-you. A note of encouragement. Send one, or send many. Our hope is simply that you use the stamp, send the card within the month, and don’t let that small act of connection go unused.
Going analog is powerful and a little bit radical right now. We’ll cover the stamp. You handle the message..
Please note:
Free stamps apply to regular single card purchases only. Card packs, mini cards, and postcards are excluded. This is an in-store only initiative.
We can’t fix everything with a card. But we can choose connection. We can show care in tangible ways. And we can remind each other that love, empathy, and community still matter.
Let’s stamp out hate together.
