Nearly Halloween and frost greets the morning's walkway paper grab on Oakland Place as Guthrie and Marigold Simpson wake to their morning coffee and croissants, equalling their discussions of imminent excursions to Florida for the winter with the birds outside their paned windows; the quintessential American Robin, aka Turdus migratorius, tend now to form nomadic flocks of up to thousands of southern seeking habiteers. Their winter range seeks fellow Bills Mafia birds flocking to abler markets of sun, sea, snails, and winter frolic. Guthrie, Marigold, and their neighboring robins will all leave Buffalo behind, to those of us able shovelers, reveling with the crows, coveting our fleece, till springtime's call.

Would you, if could you, be rather
Sailing or Motoring on through?
We each have a choice, mon hare,
It’s all up to you.
Angst, jealousy, or whatever for
Between Stinkboats and Blowpolers,
There’s a curious lore—almost a war!
One runs, rushes, reacts, and rams right through,
Wrinkling the water; it’s peace under slaughter.
The other puns and plays, and wind-pushes sleek,
With no peculiar pew, no sense of noise or reek,
And peace has her day’s long due.
One is faster for sure, if not caught on a lure,
But the other’s the master,
And it’s so much more pure.
Yours runs from A-to-Z,
Our sailboats just want to be.
Is it the end destination, the rush to get there?
That gives hesitation—Stinkboat beware!
Why you Stinkboaters berate us, or race us,
We don’t need to know, or even assume—
We’ll keep to our Sailboats, and you can go

Seven Seas' Throwback Thursday connection with Queen Elizabeth! Her Majesty had a great smile, thanks partly to her dental hygenist, Lorraine Sherman, who retired from the UK and settled in as my parents' neighbor across from Kissing Bridge in Glenwood, NY. Lorraine and her husband took sailing lessons at Seven Seas Sailing of Buffalo! 🙂 Wonderful couple!
