From food on the shelves to parts for factories, truckers deliver it all. Without drivers, the economy would literally stop.

This year, there’s even talk in Congress about making this week officially recognized nationwide. But whether it’s written in law or not, respect is already here.

If you’re new to trucking in the U.S., your first DOT inspection can feel stressful. But don’t worry, it’s routine and part of keeping roads safe. Here’s what usually happens:

👉 Driver check: CDL, medical card, logs (paper or ELD), seatbelt, drug/alcohol compliance.
👉 Vehicle check: brakes, tires, lights, steering, suspension, trailer, cargo securement.
👉 Safety gear: fire extinguisher, reflective triangles, first aid.

If everything is in order, it can be over in 30 minutes, and you may even get a CVSA decal as proof you passed.

Summer means more miles, and also more chances to run into busy stops and crowded routes. That’s why it’s good to refresh some simple safety habits for your cargo. Some routes and stops are riskier than others, so here’s how to stay safe:

👉 High-risk areas. Major cities, border states, and busy rest stops are common hot spots.

👉 Don’t park in dark or isolated places. Thieves target trucks left alone in poorly lit areas.

👉 Lock up every time. Even short stops. Always secure your doors and trailer.

👉 Use safe apps and GPS tools. Check parking apps for trusted, well-lit spots with cameras or patrols.

👉 Stay alert when stopping near busy highways. Quick in-and-out thefts often happen close to exits.
